Thursday Morning Quick Hits

It's already Thursday and it feels like the week has only just gotten underway.  Since you've hardly had time to get back into a groove, it's only fair to surmise that you haven't been able to keep up with everything going on in the world around you, so here's what's going on in the blogosphere, boiled down to its essence:  

• Wednesday was a red letter day here at Dawg Sports, as I managed one of the great coups in blogdom, being mentioned (and linked) at Every Day Should Be Saturday and MGoBlog on the same date.  If only my name had come up at Burnt Orange Nation on May 31, I'd have gotten the hat trick.  
• What, pray tell, led to the aforementioned Dawg Sports nods at two of the premiere weblogs in the intercollegiate athletics pantheon?  Brian scratched my name from the list of bloggers he would consider convincing to jump ship to the Maize and Blue, for fear that such a switch would cause him to "miss out on weeks of strangely entertaining intersectional sniping with Maize 'n' Brew about the proper place to put Northwestern in a totally fictional, totally implausible total realignment of college football," whereas Orson offered his thoughts (as only Orson can) about E.D.S.B.S.'s editorial policies and general beliefs about blogging.  Among Orson's many fine rules (notwithstanding a grammatical eccentricity here and there) is this one:

• Jmac has provided another set of "top fives," this time regarding Bulldog athletics, and Paragon SC has offered his thoughts on how schools and coaches ought to discipline misbehaving players.  
• In a good-natured fashion, Building the Dam has taken issue with my claim that Oregon State's football uniforms are among the ugliest in college football and he is soliciting comments upon the subject.  When it comes to expressing an opinion on the Beavers' game-day attire, I guess you're dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.  

Do not adjust your monitor.  Those uniforms are supposed to look like that.

• SportsBlogs Nation's college sports contingent continues to grow, as Nico of Eccentric Southern Gentleman fame has signed on to run the Crimson Tide weblog Roll Bama Roll, where, among other items of note, Nico has previewed Alabama's postseason prospects in baseball and raised the important question, "Where should the Iron Bowl be played?"  As a major supporter of neutral site rivalry games in college football, I'm with Nico on this one:  Alabama-Auburn ought to be played in Birmingham.  
• Sports Illustrated has compiled a list of the top college football plays of all time and, although it was preposterous that "The Bush Push" was on the list yet none of Red Grange's first-quarter touchdowns against Michigan in 1924 made the grade, I'm glad to know that Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott was included.  
• In the last poll question, I asked you to name the Bulldogs' biggest rival and you answered.  Since no one chose "none of the above," I presume that my list---Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, and Tennessee---was comprehensive.  Few were persuaded that the Red and Black's most prominent foe was from the Palmetto State, as Clemson and South Carolina garnered one vote apiece.  The Volunteers finished a distant fourth, with four votes.  

If Rod Smart had played for Auburn, this would just be truth in advertising.

Unsurprisingly, the top three vote getters were the Gators, the Plainsmen, and the Yellow Jackets, against whom the 'Dawgs ended the regular season in a three-game stretch known in Bulldog Nation as "Hate Season" at the finale of each autumn from 1959 to 1995.  Auburn, the team I hate the most, ranked third, with 15 votes.  Georgia Tech finished a strong second at 26 votes.  The lion's share of the ballots went to Florida, however, as the Big Lizards ended up No. 1 in the poll, receiving 53 of 100 votes cast.  

The new poll concerns the upcoming College World Series.  Vote early and vote often, especially now that you're all caught up and ready to face the world.
