Sunday Evening Quick Hits

While you've been kicking back and relaxing this holiday weekend, you might have missed a thing or two and you wouldn't want to get too far behind or else you'll never get caught back up, so here's what you need to know for now:  

• As the importance of weblogging continues to grow, certain standards must be set to enhance and sustain the credibility of the enterprise.  MGoBlog, The House Rock Built, and Burnt Orange Nation have been among the bloggers who have taken the lead in this regard, and to their valiant efforts I now humbly add The Weblogging Disclosure Statement.  
• The good news is that the Diamond Dogs beat Vanderbilt on Saturday morning.  The bad news is that the Diamond Dogs lost to Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon.  The better news is that Omaha matters more than Hoover and it was announced earlier this afternoon that Athens will be one of the 16 host sites for the N.C.A.A. baseball regionals.  

There's a reason why nobody ever made a T.V. show called "Mutual of Hoover's Wild Kingdom."

• I might have been a bit unkind to the Volunteers' bluetick hound . . . or, at least, that's the View From Rocky Top, which has reported the court's decision in the case of Uga v. Smokey, 555 F. Supp. 1555 (E.D. Tenn. 2006).  There is no word yet on whether the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit will review the ruling, although, according to A.C., I shouldn't have been throwing stones in the first place.  
• While we're on the subject of throwing things, Georgia junior Jennifer Dahlgren threw a hammer 236 feet and three inches on Saturday, thereby setting a new N.C.A.A. record in the women's hammer throw.  That's almost 79 yards . . . and she has a year of eligibility left.  Are you thinking what I'm thinking?  Maybe the correct answer to the choice between Joe Tereshinski III, Matt Stafford, Blake Barnes, and Joe Cox is "(e) none of the above."

• We take our football seriously around here, so much so that we discuss everything from the sublimely esoteric (i.e., whether college football is an art form or whether it is beautiful) to the unabashedly practical (e.g., which team we hate the most and where the Georgia-Florida game ought to be played).  For my part, I believe college football is both a thing of beauty and a work of art, I believe the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party belongs in Jacksonville, and I hate Auburn.  
• Finally, since some Dawg Sports readers have offered constructive criticisms of my poll question selection, I have decided to give someone else a try for a change.  If you have a suggestion for a possible poll question, please let me know in the comments below or in the diaries to the right.  The top five choices will be used as options in the next poll question, which will be:  "Which of the following should be the next Dawg Sports poll question?"  The reader who recommends the winning question will be recognized for that achievement.
