The Defending National Champions Look to Repeat

The National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships are scheduled to commence in Corvallis, Ore., on April 20 and the Gym Dogs will be the overall No. 1 seed.

Georgia came by its lofty ranking honestly.  Suzanne Yoculan's gymnasts are 26-0 against a most impressive schedule, ranked No. 1 in the land, and the defending national champions.

The Gym Dogs won their regional competition with the highest overall score (197.425) of any of the 12 qualifiers, finishing ahead of the regional champions of the North Central (Arizona State, 196.675), West (Alabama, 196.475), South Central (Florida, 196.375), Central (Oklahoma, 196.375), and Northeast (Michigan, 196.0).  The highest-scoring non-champion also came out of Georgia's Southeast Regional (Nebraska, 196.35).

On the first day of competition, the Bulldogs will begin their rotation with the vault, then, following a bye, they will move on to the uneven bars and the balance beam.  After another bye, the Red and Black will conclude with the floor exercise.

The competition draw for Georgia's prelim session also includes Arizona State, Florida, Oregon State, Iowa State, and Arkansas.  Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Louisiana State, and Utah round out the field for the N.C.A.A. Championships, with the top three teams emerging from each session moving on to the "Super Six" on April 21.

With spring football practice behind us, the time has come for Bulldog Nation to unite behind the Gym Dogs as they attempt to cap off an extraordinary campaign with a second straight national title.

Go 'Dawgs!
