Sunday Afternoon Quick Hits
Over at Schembechler Hall, Joey has a couple of questions he'd like to ask you, so give them your careful consideration and let him know what you think.
Ian's latest posting at Sexy Results! confirms that he has, in fact, seen the Drive By Truckers play live, as I believe everyone should.
The Realist is back and in rare form as he rails against the new tailgating regulations in unexpurgated fashion.

Much as William Faulkner added a "u" to his family name "Falkner," the future University of Georgia president dropped the second "d" from his family name "Addams."
If you want to know the proper way to handle the thrill of victory, check out Bruins Nation. If you want to know the proper way to handle the agony of defeat, check out Burnt Orange Nation. (During football season, by the way, I would have pointed you to those same sites to demonstrate those same propositions . . . only the order would have been reversed.)
Finally, the fine fellows at The M Zone broke their usual weekend radio silence long enough to pass along a report that, evidently, Colin Cowherd will give credit where credit is due on his show tomorrow.
Someday, when enough history has unfolded to confirm that sports talk radio is the eight-track to the blogosphere's iPod, fans will look back on The M Zone's victory over Colin Cowherd as a watershed moment in the evolution of how we experience and exchange opinions about athletics. This was a small battle and Colin Cowherd was a minor conquest, to be sure, but the outcome marks an important turning point that gives the tiniest glimpse into the way the wind is blowing.
Go 'Dawgs!

All evidence to the contrary...
I understand that it is a Bruin Blog and that anyone, outside of UCLA fans, who tread there, does so at their own peril. But to say they are the class of the blogosphrere is a bit of a reach. There have been some great posts about UCLA athletics on their blog, very insightful and very informative and I absolutely understand their rabid support for their program, but they are hardly gracious in victory in regards to their hoops program and they certainly were not gracious in defeat against SC football.
I've always been a little torn, Mom went to UCLA, and dad went to SC. I went to neither. Our family rooted for SC football and, even though I'm not really into hoops, Bruin basketball. But that's family. It can be a little tough to be a fan for both but I still am. I'm Pac-10 all the way. I certainly will not give any SC bloggers a pass for any gratuitous shots at UCLA.
In contrast, the guys at BON were very gracious with their win at the Rose Bowl. They had some fun with it, pumped their fists and took a few good-natured shots at SC. Who could blame them; they had to listen to constant pumping from the clowns at Bristol about all things SC. They slew the dragon and they reveled in it!
They have been pretty cool with non UT fans who visit the their blog on a regular basis. Peter and the guys over there have put up a lot of great posts about Longhorns athletics. Even their lack tolerance of their bitter rivals, OU, isn't too far over the top. They're a real class act!
Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the opportunity to let me voice my opinion.
By the way, great work on the Cowherd situation.

That's a fair point
Certainly, Bruins Nation takes the rivalry with U.S.C. seriously and I have respectfully disagreed with some of the postings appearing there regarding the Trojans, such as (for instance) one concerning the "Onepeat" billboard campaign calling Southern Cal's 2003 national championship into question. Upon that subject, I sided with Heismanpundit and with The M Zone.
For the most part, though, my recent posting was referring to the two sites' coverage of the tournament, complete with still pictures that captured the excitement of the event (which I don't follow terribly closely, but the appeal of which I understand).
To the extent that I was addressing the way Bruins Nation and Burnt Orange Nation celebrate victory and cope with defeat, though, I would say that both typically take the view of Winston Churchill: "In victory, magnanimity; in defeat, defiance."
Most of what I read at Bruins Nation after the loss to Southern Cal in football appeared to me to be directed at shortcomings in the U.C.L.A. football program, whereas most of what I have read there about the Bruins' tournament run has focused on the quality of their coach.
Nevertheless, I understand where you're coming from, particularly as someone with ties to both L.A.-based schools, and I appreciate your comments, which were measured and reasonable. Thanks for reading and thanks for your support on the Colin Cowherd/M Zone affair.

MZone
I'm having a bit of a problem Emailing MZone. Is there anyway for you to get word to Yost and the gang about putting up a wav file of Cowherds broadcast today?
I won't be near a radio during his show and I would love to hear his response.
Thanks

M Zone update
I haven't heard it, but it sounds like Cowherd did the right thing.
Thanks for reading and I'll keep you posted.
