There's Plenty of "O" in "Bobo" . . . Two of Them, In Fact!

Great minds think alike: Mike Bobo has been named Georgia's new offensive coordinator.

Coach Bobo, a record-setting high school quarterback at Thomasville and a team captain of the 1996 and 1997 Bulldogs, has nine years' coaching experience at the collegiate level, including six as Georgia's quarterbacks coach under Mark Richt. During that time, he was the position coach under whose guidance David Greene became the winningest Q.B. in college football history, D.J. Shockley won an S.E.C. championship in his first and only season as a starter, and Matthew Stafford began to live up to his considerable potential.

At age 32, Coach Bobo is a year older than Vince Dooley was at the time he was named head coach of the Red and Black and a year younger than Mark Richt was at the time he was promoted from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator at Florida State. That ain't bad for a guy who used to engage in mischievous spider monkey antics with his brother on "Go, Diego, Go!"

This is a terrific move and it is further proof that Mark Richt is the finest head football coach in University of Georgia history.

Love the move! Somebody "new" would just want to change too much. New isnt better.

Tenuta

After reading PWD's link to a Tech blog about Gailey & Nix' incompetence and Tenuta's prowess, I am reminded of a thought that I had a while back, but forgot...
I thought for sure BC, NCST, Duke or one of the ACC teams would try to snatch Tenuta away from GT (and I was hoping it would happen too). I don't even remember hearing his name for any of those jobs, but since all of those jobs are filled now, I am surprised Bama hasn't considered him. I know he isn't a head coach, but he knows defense (something Bama usually does well) and could he do any worse that DuBose or Shula?

My understanding re Tenuta

Is that it's a personality thing. Supposedly he's pretty gruff, a sizable ego, kind of an asshole in person. Which is not exactly unheard-of for defensive coordinators, certainly, but even the Tech fans I've talked to say that his personality type is one that doesn't necessarily mesh well with a lot of HCs (of course, they may just be saying that because they HOPE he never leaves). Certainly he wouldn't mesh too well with an Alabama administration/fanbase that thinks coaches should be selling all their worldly possessions to buy a ticket to Tuscaloosa and beg to be considered for the job.

At any rate, with Paul Bryant Jr. pulling an ungodly number of strings regarding EVERYTHING football-related in the U of A system, he'd probably sacrifice his own children before he allowed UA to go knocking on the door of a school his father despised for its next coach. Bill Curry's connection to GT was part of the reason the deck was so stacked against him even before he set foot on the UA campus -- Bear Bryant apparently hated Tech with a passion (not that I'm judging).
