The Mark Richt Victory Watch

It is time once again to update the Mark Richt Victory Watch.

Because of his age at the time of his hiring and the coaching pedigree he brought with him to the Classic City, it was clear from the outset that Mark Richt was likely to have a sufficiently lengthy and successful tenure in Athens for him to challenge Vince Dooley's school record for career victories. Accordingly, I have been counting down each win on the way to the high water mark of 201.

The Mark Richt Victory Watch now stands at 60. By becoming the first Georgia coach to begin his career with a 6-0 record against Georgia Tech, Coach Richt placed himself just 141 wins shy of tying Coach Dooley's record.

The win moved Coach Richt out of a two-way tie with Harry Mehre and gave him sole possession of third place on the all-time career victories list at Georgia, behind just Coach Dooley and Wally Butts (140).

With 77 games under his belt, Coach Richt has posted a ledger of 60-17, which is the best won-lost record ever compiled by a Bulldog head football coach in as many games. Harry Mehre (48-26-3), Wally Butts (54-21-2), Vince Dooley (50-23-4), and Ray Goff (45-31-1) all lagged behind Mark Richt at the same point in their respective careers.
