Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Austin Davis threw for 188 yards and a touchdown to lead the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles to a 17-6 victory over the UCF Knights in a Conference USA battle at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Davis completed 21-of-34 to pace Southern Miss (4-6, 2-4 CUSA), as the signal- caller added 73 yards and a touchdown on the ground as well in the win. DeAndre Brown grabbed six passes for 89 yards and a score for the Golden Eagles.

Rob Calabrese completed just 12-of-30 for 141 yards with one touchdown and two costly interceptions in the losing effort for UCF (2-7, 1-4), while Brian Watters tallied five catches for 71 yards for the Knights.

The Knights struck first with a three-yard touchdown pass from Calabrese to Kymest Williams late in the opening quarter. The extra point attempt, however, missed and UCF settled for a 6-0 advantage.

The Golden Eagles responded late in the second period of play as Davis connected with a five-yard toss to Brown to give Southern Miss a 7-0 lead heading into the break.

Davis gave the Golden Eagles a 14-6 lead late in the third with an eight-yard touchdown run.

The Golden Eagles added a 29-yard Britt Barefoot field goal midway through the final period of play.

UCF converted a mere 1-of-11 on third down and controlled the ball for a shade over 18 minutes on the afternoon.
