Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - Colt McCoy spearheaded a huge Texas comeback, but Texas Tech's Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree made the final statement in the most thrilling Big 12 finish this year and the Red Raiders dethroned the top-ranked team in the process.
Harrell connected with Crabtree on a 28-yard touchdown pass with one second remaining, giving the sixth-ranked Red Raiders a 39-33 win over No.1 Texas, sparking a wild scene.
The Longhorns rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit to grab a 33-32 edge with 1:29 remaining on Vondrell McGee's four-yard TD run up the middle.
Harrell then worked the Red Raiders down the field and was fortunate when a tipped ball went through the hands of safety Blake Gideon with eight seconds remaining.
On the next play, Harrell threw to the right side, found Crabtree, who avoided cornerback Curtis Brown and then tip-toed along the sideline before going into the end zone.
The fans rushed the field, and a pair of penalties forced the Red Raiders to kick the ball off from their own 7 1/2-yard line. After order was restored, Texas failed on a lateral play following the squib kick, and the fans swarmed the field again.
Harrell connected on 36-of-53 passes for 474 yards with a pair of scores, while Edward Britton caught seven passes for 139 yards. Crabtree had 10 receptions for 127 yards for the Red Raiders (9-0, 5-0 Big 12), who secured their landmark 500th win in school history.
More importantly, it put the Red Raiders into contention for the national championship and is sure to shake up the BCS standings when they're released Sunday.
McCoy completed 20-of-34 passes for 294 yards with a pair of TDs and was picked off once, but Texas (8-1, 4-1) is sure to be knocked from its perch. Malcolm Williams had four receptions for 182 yards and two scores for Texas.
