Recap: Iowa State vs. Texas A&M

Sports Network | October 25, 2008

Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Jerrod Johnson threw for 381 yards and a career- best four touchdowns as he led the Texas A&M Aggies to a 49-35 win against the Iowa State Cyclones in Big 12 Conference action at Jack Trice Stadium.

Johnson converted 31-of-39 passing for the Aggies (3-5, 1-3 Big 12) as they snapped a three-game slide and picked up their first league victory of the campaign. Jamie McCoy finished the night with seven catches for 110 yards and a pair of scores.

The Cyclones (2-6, 0-4), losers of six in a row after defeating both South Dakota State and Kent State to open 2008, were paced by Austen Arnaud who converted 26-of-41 for 371 yards and a score, but was sacked four times.

ISU opened the night's scoring with a one-yard TD run by Alexander Robinson, but that proved to be the only lead of the game for the Cyclones after Johnson threw TD passes of 35 and 37 yards to Terrence McCoy and Jamie McCoy, respectively, to give the visitors a 14-7 advantage in the second quarter.

Jason Scales managed to lock the score at 14-14 for Iowa State after he made it into the end zone on a one-yard run, but the tie was short-lived as Johnson again found Jamie McCoy with a 12-yard TD pass and Cyrus Gray streaked into the end zone from 27 yards away to make the score 28-14.

But before the first half could end the Cyclones edged slightly closer, thanks to a 32-yard field goal by Grant Mahoney.

Mahoney's 26-yard field goal in the third cut the deficit to 28-20, but once again A&M responded with back-to-back touchdowns.

Jorvorski Lane had just one carry on the night, yet he still made it count as a one-yard TD run with just over a minute to play in the third period. A five- yard TD run by Johnson to open the fourth made the score 42-20.

Arnaud had a hand in both touchdowns for Iowa State in the fourth, first running across the goal line from nine yards out and then finding Collin Franklin with a two-yard TD pass, but in between Johnson and Jeff Fuller combined on an eight-yard TD connection for the Aggies in the 14-point win for the visitors.

ISU, which came up empty on two of its eight chances inside the red zone, managed to produce 574 yards of total offense, but also lost possession of a couple fumbles along the way.
