Report: Notre Dame TE Yeatman suspended for season

Sports Network | October 15, 2008

South Bend, IN (Sports Network) - Notre Dame has reportedly suspended tight end Will Yeatman for the rest of the 2008 season after a second alcohol- related offense this year.

The South Bend Tribune reported Wednesday that Yeatman, a 20-year-old sophomore from San Diego, has been suspended by Notre Dame's residence life office from all football activities, including practice and any potential bowl game, for the rest of the season. Yeatman's father confirmed the punishment to the Tribune.

Yeatman was one of 37 Notre Dame students arrested at an off-campus party in the early morning hours of September 21 for underage drinking. Also on Notre Dame's lacrosse team, Yeatman was suspended from both teams earlier this year after a drunken driving arrest on January 28.

Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis was not available for comment for the story, and with the 4-2 Fighting Irish on a bye week, he is not scheduled to speak to the press again until next Tuesday.

Yeatman last played in Notre Dame's 23-7 loss to Michigan State on September 20, just hours before he was arrested. He broke his nose and suffered a shoulder strain in the loss. According to the Tribune, Yeatman had a blood- alcohol content of .02 -- about one drink's worth -- but still was punished more severely than the 21 other athletes caught at the party because this was considered a second offense.
