Men's & Women's Golf Dawgs finish 4th & 5th respectively at SEC Championships
While the Men's Tennis Team was busy winning the SEC Championship this past weekend, the Men's and Women's Golf Teams were fighting for the same but coming up just short, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
We'll start with the Men, who finished fourth in the SEC Championship this past weekend. They posted a total round score of 850, or 10-over for the entire tournament. Top-ranked Alabama, who's been tearing up nearly any tournament they've played in, took home the SEC honors shooting a 12-under 828.

Bubba Watson's 2012 Masters Victory: What It Means to Bulldog Nation
Not to brag or anything, but we at Dawg Sports were on the Bubba Watson bandwagon early. Bubba was being listed here among the Georgia greats as early as January 2008, and we have sung his praises at every turn, whether Bubba was winning the 2010 Travelers Championship or winning the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open or winning the 2011 Zurich Classic, whether he was rapping and dancing in videos or dressing like Bill Murray for the U.S. Open, or whether he was hitting a golf ball out of Sanford Stadium or sparking comment-thread controversies over his driving distance.
We pulled for Bubba in the 2011 Masters and followed him throughout the 2011 U.S. Open before tracking his progress through the initial rounds of this year’s Masters, ultimately devoting Easter Sunday to watching Bubba’s thrilling triumph at Augusta. So, yeah, this is kind of a big moment for all of us.
UGA Player Bubba Watson Sheds Tears of Joy in 2012 Masters Victory
Fans of the Masters, UGA and just old school golf found themselves watching an amazing sudden death victory by Bubba Watson celebrated as he hugged family, friends and other players letting all the emotion he choked down burst lose at long last.
Bubba Watson shows us what has always been true in the Majors, consistency is key. Fighting off his own miscues and late Sunday comebacks, Bubba makes use of tap in putts and taking advantage of birdies where he can. Bubba shot his best round of the Masters on Sunday with a 68 taking him into a sudden death overtime replaying #18 against Louis Oosthuizen. Having tied at 18 once again in ovetime as Bubba's eyes expanded, edging a putt by the cup for par, they headed to #10 to again test their t-shot nerves. Bubba's T shot misses right as Louis's does as well, the sun setting deeply behind the tall Georgian pines as they search for the green on #10 sudden death. Bubba purposely and amazingly snap hooks his approach by and around a large magnolia to find the green in regulation. With Louis missing his par putt, Bubba was looking at two putts to win his green jacket, bringing home a Masters victory for this UGA player in electrifying dramatic fashion as the crowd cheers.

Golf Dawgs find some consistency, finish in second at USF Invitational
The Golf Dawgs were in third place after the first round of the USF Invitational, but strong shooting on Monday and Tuesday allowed them to not only maintain their pace, but move to second overall at the conclusion of the event.
They were 4-under over the entire event, finishing six strokes behind eventual winner Central Florida, who was ranked No. 16 going into the event. The Dawgs were ranked 22nd. They were led by T.J. Mitchell, who finished fifth individually, but the entire team shot well on Tuesday to secure the victory. Ironically, the highest score of Tuesday was the aforementioned Mitchell, who shot a 2-over 74.
More into on the event, plus a former Bulldog sets records this past weekend, after the jump...
Weather forces the Women's Golf Dawgs into sixth-place finish...poor shooting also to blame.
The Women's Golf Team competed in the Horton Hear's a Hootie Invitational* this past weekend, but fell way short of their No. 9 ranking, finishing sixth overall after 36 holes of play. The last 18 holes of the contest were canceled after weather shortened play on Saturday, and since college has this thing called "classes," teams had to travel back to their respective homes on Sunday after Saturday's holes were made up.
Marta Silva Zamora continued her great play, finishing tied for fourth at 142 overall. She shot 71 on Friday and Saturday. Emilie Burger finished in the top 20 again, this time tied for 20th, and continues to play good golf, but has yet to play on the level that Marta Silva Zamora is at. The rest of the team didn't fare so well, shooting in the high 70s over two day tourney, and no one finishing higher than 38th.
Golf Dawgs stumble on Tuesday to finish 9th in Puerto Rico Classic
Puerto Rico is nice. It's the kind of place where one could get distracted by the scenery, both of a geographical and biological nature. That may have been what happened to the Men's Golf Team today, the final day of the Puerto Rico Classic.
Last week, we noted that the women had a very good Puerto Rico Classic, finishing second in that contest, but the men didn't fare so well after the ladies set the stage. How bad was the loss? Alabama won the event with an 18 SHOT LEAD over second place finisher Clemson. Over the three rounds, Alabama finished 30 under, and the Dawgs, for comparison, finished five over. More details on the event after the jump...
Golf Dawgs Roundup: Lady Dawgs finish second in Puerto Rico, Men tee off there soon.
After having the lead for the first two rounds of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, the Dawgs finished second in the event behind No. 10 LSU, but Bulldog Marta Silva Zamora, a senior, took home the event at 3-under. It was the sixth individual title for Silva Zamora, who is very good at golf, as her list of accomplishments includes being the reigning National Player of the Year. It's what the kids say is "a big deal."

Silva Zamora is one win away from tying the record of all time wins in Bulldog history, with Shauna Estes and Vicki Goetze being the current record holders. More scoop on the event as well as some tidbits from the Men's team after the jump...
Georgia Bulldogs End Fall Men's Golf Schedule With Win
After a fast start on Sunday and a sluggish second round on Monday, the Georgia men’s golf team finished strong on Tuesday to win the Outerbanks Collegiate Invitational. Though two of his teammates also carded top-ten scores, the man of the hour unquestionably was Albany’s own T.J. Mitchell, whose five-under 67 on the tournament’s last loop left him in first place in the field with an overall 15-under 201. Mitchell’s 14 birdies and three eagles enabled him to tie the second-lowest tourney tally in school history.
By virtue of Mitchell’s stellar effort, the Red and Black registered a four-shot victory over Liberty, firing a 12-under 276 for the round to complete a 30-under effort for the invitational and conclude the Bulldog linksters’ fall schedule in triumph. The Athenian men will return to action in San Juan’s Puerto Rico Shootout, beginning February 19.
Go ‘Dawgs!
