Georgia Bulldogs v. Vanderbilt Commodores Season-Ending Swansong Basketball Open Comment Thread

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Bulldog Nation: Mark Fox's teams have won their first SEC Tournament game in each year of his tenure with the Georgia Bulldogs, but, entering this evening, they have yet to win two. Will tonight's clash with the Vanderbilt Commodores follow the familiar script and leave the Fiery Librarian at 3-3 in conference tourney play, or will it provide a breakthrough win against the Music City Mariners on a neutral court---that could matter, with these guys---to set up a winnable Saturday game?

Wait, wait, wait; I just said, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves," didn't I? All right, let's focus on the task at hand, then: Georgia faces an uphill battle against Vandy, but, when knowledgeable Kentucky fans have no confidence in the Commodores' ability to defeat the Hoop Dogs, there's at least a chance, so let's cheer on the Red and Black in their final basketball game of the 2011-2012 season! their second SEC Tournament game!

Welcome to the comment thread for the Georgia Bulldogs' final basketball game of the 2011-2012 season! first SEC Tournament game! I've asked whether it matters; tankertoad has said it does. I've asked questions about it, and I've answered questions, as well.

Now it's your turn, Bulldog Nation. Dive into the comment thread and cheer the Bulldogs---our Bulldogs, that is---on to victory! Tip-off is set for 10:00 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network.

Georgia Bulldogs v. South Carolina Gamecocks Basketball Open Comment Thread

The Georgia Bulldogs have already lost one basketball game to the South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend; could they lose another, as well, when the men's hoops squads from Athens and Columbia meet in Stegeman Coliseum and on the SEC network at 1:45 p.m. Eastern this afternoon?

For Heaven's sake, let's hope not, but stranger things have happened. The two teams are a combined 6-24 in SEC play this season, and both clubs sport overall losing ledgers. A win today would leave the Fox Hounds sitting at 14-16, which would require them to make it as far as the SEC Tournament championship game next Sunday just to be assured of no worse than a .500 finish.

This afternoon marks the end of a disappointing regular season, which likely will be followed by a short stay in New Orleans with no postseason invitation of any sort awaiting thereafter. This, quite frankly, is just about the last chance the Red and Black will have to end on anything like a high note, so here's hoping they make the most of it. Please feel free to join in the conversation in the comments below.

Georgia Bulldogs at Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Beatdown Open Comment Thread

Mark Fox is enthusiastic. I have previewed the game on YouTube. Is there cause for optimism?

Frankly, probably not. The Kentucky Wildcats are the No. 1 team in the nation and a projected NCAA Tournament one seed, whereas the Georgia Bulldogs are the No. 10 team . . . in the SEC. As upset formulas go, this is not a promising recipe.

Still, our team is our team, and the game is being televised on ESPN at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, so give the Fox Hounds a look on television and join in the conversation in the comments below.

Georgia Bulldogs v. Florida Gators Basketball Bloodletting Comment Thread

So, um, yeah. The Florida Gators are a projected four seed in the NCAA Tournament. Mark Fox's Georgia Bulldogs, despite showing occasional signs of life, are spiraling toward a losing record.

Today's men's basketball game at Stegeman Coliseum tips off at 4:00 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network. We're going to lose whip their tails, and it's going to stink be awesome, but, if you can stomach it, then, by all means, please join in the conversation in the comments below.

Georgia Bulldogs at LSU Tigers Doom, Gloom, and Agony Basketball Thread

Today is an important day, for several reasons, representing as it does (i) Ash Wednesday, (ii) the 280th anniversary of the birth of George Washington, (iii) the 192nd anniversary of the founding of the Phi Kappa Literary Society, and (iv) the 150th anniversary of events of import both in Richmond and in Washington, D.C.

Today does not, however, represent an occasion of note with regard to Mark Fox's Georgia Bulldogs, who will be taking on the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network. The Hoop Dogs are 1-5 in their last six road games, and the excitement generated by last year's trip to the NCAA Tournament has dissipated, so much so that Georgia bloggers now are discussing openly Coach Fox's future in the Classic City.

At this point, we're just playing out the string, but, if you can stomach another dismaying outing, you are invited to cheer on the Fox Hounds in the comments below. Pray that the Red and Black have given up losing for Lent.

We've got a game. We're going to lose. It's going to suck.

If you can stomach it, the game is in Athens, on Fox Sports Net, and open for discussion in the comments below.

Georgia Bulldogs at South Carolina Gamecocks Basketball Game Night Open Comment Thread

How unimportant is the Georgia Bulldogs' men's basketball game against the South Carolina Gamecocks in the grand scheme of things? It matters so little that the game, which tips off in Columbia, S.C., at 7:00 p.m. Eastern, is being televised on CSS, which, honestly, is worse than not being televised at all.

For the Red and Black, however, this game matters a great deal. The Fox Hounds entered this season with no realistic expectation of earning a second straight NCAA Tournament bid, and they effectively have played themselves out of NIT contention, but a minor tournament remains a possibility, one which would benefit the team tremendously were the opportunity to be afforded.

This game is an absolute must-win for the newly-resurgent Bulldogs. Honestly, if Georgia can't beat a South Carolina team acknowledged by its own fans to be the worst in a watered-down SEC, the Hoop Dogs don't deserve any sort of postseason invitation, and they will not receive one. The Athenians may be in a "win and stay home" scenario, but they're certainly in no better than a "win or stay home" situation, so cheer on the Bulldogs in the comments below.

Georgia Bulldogs at Mississippi State Bulldogs Basketball Game Day Open Comment Thread

At 1:30 p.m. Eastern today, Mark Fox's Georgia Bulldogs will try to string together back-to-back wins for the first time since late December. In order to do that, the Hoop Hounds will have to get the better of the Mississippi St. Bulldogs in Starkville and on the SEC Network.

That, however, will be a tall order for the Red and Black. The Magnolia State Mongrels have won four of their last five, aided by Dee Bost, who leads the league in assists and may or may not have skipped out on a pregnant woman in "Lonesome Dove," producing much needless anguish.

Dial up the game, cheer on the Bulldogs (the real Bulldogs), and join the conversation in the comments.

Georgia Bulldogs v. Arkansas Razorbacks Basketball Game Night Open Comment Thread

Well, here we go again. Mark Fox's Georgia Bulldogs will be hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks in Stegeman Coliseum at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network. Should you be so inclined, you may track (though not watch) the game here.

The Hogs are an enigmatic team, having in the last two and a half weeks beaten the Michigan Wolverines and the Vanderbilt Commodores while losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers. Arkansas, which is still looking for its first win of the season on an opponent's home court, travels to Athens hoping to unleash "40 minutes of Hell," in honor of the roundball strategy, biography, and documentary of the same name, all of which are discussed in a recent podcast at Arkansas Expats, SB Nation's Razorbacks weblog and, I believe, the only blog in the network with "sex" in the URL.

If you can stomach another evening of Georgia men's basketball---and, honestly, at this point, no one would fault you if you couldn't---please join in the conversation in the comments below.
