Game Day Open Comment Thread and Honorary Game Co-Captains
Our good friend Sunday Morning Quarterback will be hosting his first pan-gridiron open comment thread today, so you may want to pop over and pay him a visit.
No, not this Sunday Morning Quarterback . . .

. . . or this Sunday Morning Quarterback . . .

. . . but this Sunday Morning Quarterback!
For the record, in the same posting linked to above, SMQ predicted a 34-23 Georgia victory this afternoon. (MaconDawg forecast a 34-30 outcome and I foresaw a 31-27 final margin, but we all went with the 'Dawgs. Rocky Top Talk saw it going 34-31 the other way.)
SMQ also made reference to "Ohio U. of Ohio," which may or may not have been an homage to my long-running "Ohio (Ohio)" joke. I go back and forth over whether I appreciate the allusion, find reassurance in the notion that great minds think alike, or ought to call him nasty names for swiping my line.
In any event, this is your Bulldog Nation-based weekly game day open comment thread. Last Saturday's open thread generated some quality discussion and, in the week since, the diary section has been an active place.
For this, we are most appreciative. Keep the comments coming and the conversation going, folks. If you're not set up to post your thoughts, you may sign up for a user account here.
Now, though, it is time to name the Dawg Sports honorary game captain for the Tennessee game. Given the magnitude of this contest, I hope you will not mind that I have selected co-captains for this significant showdown. These are they:

If you think either of those images requires so much as a word of explanation, you're at the wrong weblog, my friend. In fact, if you aren't hearing a pair of classic Larry Munson play calls running on a verbatim loop in your head right now, you haven't been paying close enough attention.
Go 'Dawgs!

Any thoughts on that?
The Brown-Moreno tandem has worked pretty good this year and while I like having capable guys to backup players, I think 3 RBs is too many. Of course, I would be surprised if they rushed Lumpkin back.
UNC is killing Miami (not Ohio).
Awburn looks to have their stuff together after a slow start.
Is this the week that Wisc finally falls after many weeks of teetering?
lumpkin
i dont figure to see him much if at all.
@ 3:42
Defense is sucking. Tackle Foster!!!
@ 4:05
0-14
So far, this definitely looks like . . .
Oh, wait . . . we're the top 15 team and they're the unranked opponent?
You wouldn't know it to look at the first 20 minutes of this game.
Go 'Dawgs!
i dont know
oh great another TD on 3rd and 1
0-28
oh boy...
You want to look at last year and say "Well, hey! Tennessee was down at the half and then they came back!" But, this just looks really... really bad. Video game numbers almost.
Did we leave the real team in Tuscaloosa?
i know this seems pointless to say
I know we're young
Halftime thoughts. . .
1) It doesn't matter what Mark Richt's road record is unless he's planning on strapping on a pair of shoulder pads. I hope that our players now realize that. Heaven knows I do.
2) This team came out mentally unprepared and lackadaisical. That is the result of poor coaching and youth. That being said, I personally am pretty embarrassed.
3) After the third touchdown, I actually went out on my deck and bent a metal garden trowel with my bare hands. Seriously, my wife can vouch for it and I can post the picture. It made me feel a little better, until they scored the fourth touchdown.
4) If Wille Martinez walked in my front door right now I would probably need a bailbondsman. If Asher Allen and Prince Miller walked in I would need a bailbondsman and Alan Dershowitz.
5) Has anyone noticed Mike Bobo's disturbing tendency to throw on 1st down and then run it on 2nd? I think the percentage of second down runs goes way up after an incomplete pass on first down. If I've noticed that tendency, certainly John Chavis has.
6) I'm so glad I'm not in Knoxville right now.
7) This first half has really been the perfect storm, in which all of our historic flaws (poor tackling, timid linebacker play, breakdowns in the secondary, Stafford overthrown passes, dropped passes and boneheaded penalties) have occurred all at once.
8) One of our major problems is that it looks like we have 18 guys rotating in and out on defense, but only about 15 combined testicles for them to use while on the field.
9) I'd like to be able to offer some hope, but this team looks like they've mentally checked out already. It will take some big Tennessee mistakes combined with some luck to get back in it. Even then this one is a longshot. But if we come back in this one, I want to go on record as saying we may not lose again all year. Because this is without a doubt the worst this team is capable of playing, especially from a mental standpoint.
brown out
so now we start tackling.
and 6 minutes later
i have tried to give him chance after chance but this is preposterous.
Today is looking to be a bad day...

I am pissed certainly and may be looking to kill any UGA defender right now but this is not UGA football
Wow. Just... wow.
At some point, Mark Richt needs to answer some tough questions... like why Willie Martinez is still employed by the University. Why our defense has become worse and worse over the last three years. And who is going to take the fall for games in which our defense could not possibly play any worse.
When tackling is this poor... when schemes are this poor... when all of the above is beyond what is acceptable... someone needs to take the fall. I vote for Willie Martinez. He has been a disappointment since he took over. Georgia's defense has been on roller skates for the past few years, and I fear it will only get worse as UGA runs out of guys who even played one year under Van Gorder. I would give my left nut for Will Muschamp at this point. I know one thing. The UGAAA will not get one red cent from me until we have a new defensive coordinator. If Willie Martinez is on the sideline next year, I won't watch a single game. I won't attend a single game. I'll go into the type of despair and apathy that only Jim Donnan or Ray Goff could muster. It's time for a change. It must start now if Georgia is to ever accomplish anything beyond 8 or 9 wins... which is really in doubt this year. I am totally in self-loathing mode, and it will take a miracle for me to become rational again when it comes to UGA football. Blankety blank blank blank. And you, too, Willie. I hope you blankety blank and your entire family blankety blanks from blankety blank, you blankety blank blank blank. Blank. (This blog is family friendly after all.)
post mortem
On offense, our young line just got exposed... as a young line. I quit watching live and left for dinner.... doesn't look like it got any better, but I'll watch on Tivo.
I still think we'll beat Florida. It's a much better matchup for our defense and personnel.
Tricky
Also, who do you get?
I'm guessing Mike Stoops mike be available after this season. Could you get Muschamp to leave Auburn?
