Game Day Open Comment Thread and Honorary Captain

I don't have to tell you that this one is huge.

With a shot at the Eastern Division title on the line, will Georgia fall short or win big?

Your thoughts and observations, both on the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party and on the rest of the weekend's college football action, go in the comments below. The most trenchant observations have a distinct shot at being quoted in my postgame breakdown, if that's any incentive.

Now, though, it is time to name this week's Dawg Sports honorary game captain. Really, there could be only one choice under the circumstances . . . Keith Pernell Henderson, a three-year letterman in the late '80s who made his biggest mark as a true freshman in 1985.

The Red and Black arrived in Jacksonville ranked 17th in the A.P. poll. The Gators, for the first time in school history, were ranked No. 1 in the nation and were prohibitive favorites to defeat a Georgia squad whom the Orange and Blue had beaten by a 27-point margin the year before.

The first-year fullback had something to say about that, though. Henderson got things going with a 76-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and followed that up with a 32-yard T.D. scamper in the second period. He finished with 145 rushing yards in the course of Georgia's 24-3 romp on Duval Street.

Sure, the Classic City Canines are under-'Dawgs in this afternoon's outing. They've been there before, though, and come through with flying colors. If Knowshon Moreno can have the sort of day in Jacksonville that Keith Henderson had 22 years ago, history can repeat itself, producing much elation in Bulldog Nation.

Go 'Dawgs!

Pony's they are...
Gator he ain't.  That's a shot at home against Clemson.  Notice the paw on the headgear.  No matter, though.  Seeing a picture of Keith Henderson scoring a touchdown against any of our rivals (especially orange-clad ones) brings a smile.

Do you believe?
I've got a rather good feeling about this. In fact, I'll make a bold prediction, 17-14, Georgia. Last time Florida didn't have two weeks to prepare for Georgia: 2004. Richt's first Gator win. Go Dawgs!

Shoes and possibly relevant stats
Dave, thanks for the answer and correction. I didn't pay close attention and just saw the orange and white and assumed it was Florida since that was the subject of Kyle's post.

Granted I was the person that told Kyle that you can throw out stats for this one, but... I heard on the radio today that in UGA's wins this year, they are averaging about 5 yards on first down; in their 2 losses they are averaging under 2 yards on first down. So keep an eye to see if the Dogs are in a lot of 2nd and long situations.

Go DOGS!

Good Start
One one play, but if we can do more of that, it will be very good.

celebration
You know, I was thinking if we were to win this game, we should bus the players down to Gainesville to stomp on the Swamp.

My new prediction...
UGA and UF set a new record for most Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalties in a single game.

Go Dawgs!

Whew
I am liking the "let it all hang out" play. We are definitely playing like this is the only game that matters. This is a very different feel from any of the recent UGA teams in JAX.

If we can cover Fla's WRs and stop Harvin from big gains on the runs, I think we can win this.

OH MY GOSH!
I have to admit, I didn't think we could do it.
To the Bulldogs & CMR, thank you for proving me wrong.

HOW 'BOUT THEM DOGS!!!

(monkey off the back)

Put some of that in a bottle and keep it for the rest of the season.

I'm gonna party
like it's 1976.  I'm so happy, I could kiss Ray Goff right now.

gotta say...
I have eyed Kyle's mantra--"5-1 against defending national champions"--in this season's Florida posts with great skepticism. Every time that fact has come up, I've sighed, shook my head, rolled my eyes: "Maybe so, but, come on..." Well, I'll be damned. I don't think I've ever had more fun watching a football game in my life.
