A Bargain at Twice the Price

This brief posting has to do with money and serves only to confirm what you already knew to be true.

As reported by the Dawg Bone, Mark Richt has signed a new eight-year contract. As Carter Strickland writes:

The pact includes a hefty buyout clause. If Richt opts to terminate the contract on or before Dec. 31, 2010, he must pay the school's athletics association the amount of his salary and compensation package for each year remaining on his contract. That means if some other school wanted to hire Richt after this season, it would have to help him come up with nearly $7 million in what the contract refers to as a "liquidated damages payment."

Should Richt, 46, wait until late in his contract to consider another offer, the contract calls for him to pay no less than $2 million, regardless of how many years are left.

For the record, 2010 is the year Bobby Bowden will celebrate his 81st birthday. Either Coach Richt thinks Coach Bowden is just hitting his stride or he plans on winning the Georgia Lottery . . . or he's sending a clear message that his final coaching stop will be in the Classic City.
