The Dam Is About to Break Open For UGA's 2016 Recruiting Class

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

UGA's 2016 recruiting class currently consists of 10 commits, and is ranked as the number 6 class in the country according to rivals.com. But, things have slowed as of late and Georgia hasn't received a commitment in over a month. Well, buckle up my friends because the damn is about to break.

Peachtree Ridge Defensive Back Chad Clay, a 3 star prospect and 29th rated player in the state according to rivals, has apparently made his decision and is set to announce a commitment within the next week. Clay is a taller, athletic corner that fits Jeremy Pruitt’s scheme perfectly. The decision will come down to UGA, Florida, and Ohio State with Clay recently naming all three as tied a top his list.

On Friday night Americus Sumter Defensive lineman Tyler Clark will announce his college decision as well. Clark, a four star recruit, has long thought to have been a Georgia lean. He will decide between UGA and Auburn, and would be a huge pick up for Pruitt’s defensive.

Julian Rochester, a 4 star DT from McEachern high school and 46th ranked player in the country, is also expected to announce a commitment soon. Rochester is a 6’5" 322LB hulk and is one of the more sought after recruits in the country. He boasts offers from almost every SEC school including UGA, Auburn, LSU, etc. and national powers such as Ohio St., FSU, Clemson, etc. Georgia is thought to be the leader here as well and Rochester would be a HUGE get.

There are quite a few other 2016 recruits that are thought to be favoring Georgia and could pull the trigger soon. Mecole Hardman, a four star athlete and 98th ranked player in the country from Bowman, has claimed to be on the verge of "silently committing" to his school of choice. This has come down to a UGA vs. Tennessee battle with UGA appearing to have the lead. Kyle Davis, the four star WR from Archer and 169th player in the country, is another name to keep an eye on. He has been a South Carolina commit for almost a year now, but appears to be close to flipping UGA’s way. He recently meet and worked out with 5 star commit and UGA commit Jacob Eason, and it appears as if the young QB made quite an impression on the talented wide receiver. Finally, Linebacker Jaleel Laguins from Oconee County, a 3 star prospect and the 45th ranked player in the state, could be nearing a decision as well. Laguins has been one of Pruitt’s main targets to fill the inside linebacker need in this class and has long thought to be a UGA lock due to his proximity to Athens and love for the program.

Things will definitely get interesting over the next couple weeks heading into the summer and I’ve got a feeling UGA fans and coaches won’t be disappointed.
