Fresh off of a quality road win against Ole Miss, the Georgia Bulldogs return to Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday for a matchup against Missouri. Georgia improved its tournament resume on Wednesday with a 76-72 road win over the Rebels. Now they will look to finish strong while improving their positioning for the upcoming SEC Tournament.
The Bulldogs have three regular season games remaining including Saturday's contest. They wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday against undefeated Kentucky before closing out the conference slate on the road at Auburn. Currently the Bulldogs would be the sixth seed in the SEC Tournament. At 9-6 they are tied for fifth place with LSU but the Tigers hold the tiebreaker. However, Georgia is just one game back of Texas A&M and Ole Miss both of whom the Bulldogs hold a tiebreaker advantage over. A top four finish would guarantee a double-bye in the SEC Tournament.
Kenny Gaines led the Bulldogs with 22 points in the win over the Rebels and continued to shoot the ball well from three-point range. Georgia also got a bounce back performance from senior center Marcus Thornton who finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds which was his best performance since missing a pair of games due to a concussion.
Its been a tough season for Missouri who opened conference play with a win over LSU and then lost their next 13 games in a row. The Tigers snapped that losing streak on Tuesday with a 64-52 win over Florida. Namon Wright scored a career-high 28 points including six made three-pointers to lead the way for the Tigers. Johnathan Williams finished with nine points against the Gators and leads Missouri in points per game (12.3) and rebounds (7.0)
Tip off for Saturday's game is scheduled for 12 p.m. and is an expected sell out. I will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
