Instead of "GTL", we're "GATA".
Yes, professional golf still soldiers on, smack into college football season. This is a thread for the Barclays in Paramus, NJ, the first event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. If you're unfamiliar with the FedEx Cup, the mothership was kind enough to write a detailed primer. Additionally, I previously wrote a simplistic version that will at least tell you what you need to know as it relates to our Beloved Bulldogs' performance.
A great first day of the post-season for our Classic City Country Club Canines and here's where they stand:
Bubba bogeyed 2 of his first 3 holes, but then birdied 4 of the next 5. That helps. In the clubhouse with a -3 68 (T14).
Harris English bogeyed 5 of his first 8, but two birdies along the way and 2 more holes left to play. +3 thru 16.
Chris Kirk didn't hit many fairways or greens, but still turned in an even par 71. (T58)
Russell Henley was shaky early (#recurringtheme) but righted the ship and finished -1 (T45)
Brian Harman was hot from the start (#outlier), then cooled off a bit but still in the house with -2 69 (T29).
Erik Compton couldn't make a putt, but showed a lot of heart and ended up -3. (T13).
And Brendon Todd, he of the Ryder Cup consideration (like Kirk and English), birdied 4 straight on the front nine to shoot 31, then bogeyed a couple, but just birdied his last two holes. He's playing #17 right now, is -4, and is T6.
More details at the end of each day, though HS football starts tomorrow and I'm going to watch my daughter cheer for Keith Marshall's little brother Marcus. Because there's always a reason to say... GO DAWGS!!!!
