Athens (UGA) First Timers Needing Some Advice (Georgia - Auburn)

My buddy and I attend a (somewhat randomly selected) college football rivalry game each year, and this year we picked the Georgia - Auburn football game in Athens. We are from the Midwest and want to get the full Bulldog, home game weekend experience while we are in town. Neither of us has been to Athens, so we are looking for advice on the following:

Friday: Any events or particular bars that we should head to on Friday afternoon and night?

Gameday: We are assuming tailgating is the way to go on gameday? Are there any "common area" tailgates that are open for anyone to join (we likely won't have a car for our own tailgate)? Also, are there any traditions that we should be sure to see?

We are looking forward to a great experience in Athens! Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
