As the greatest horticultural/golf showcase in America begins play this morning, the former Bulldogs in the field all still have something to play for. Bubba Watson sits 1 stroke back of leader Bill Haas at -3 and will tee off at 1:15 this afternoon. As is usually the case with Bubba, the watchword for the day is consistency. Can he avoid playing himself out of contention? Because if he's close on Saturday, he's as sound a bet to take home the green jacket as anyone.
Russell Henley sits 5 shots off the pace at +1, and will go out in the final group of the afternoon with Lee Westwood and fellow Bulldog Harris English at 1:59. English stands at +2, and I'm a little worried that with temperatures in the 80's and no real cloud cover he and Henley are going to encounter some dry, inconsistent greens by the time they make the turn this afternoon.
Chris Kirk begins the day at +3, and while he'd really have to catch fire to catch the leaders 7 shots ahead of him, he's still got a lot to play for. The cut at Augusta is set at 10 shots off the lead or 50th position (plus ties). That means that all four of these guys start the day with a good chance to be playing this weekend, with a return trip to Magnolia Lane in 2015 (or more) on the line.
As usual, this thread will be open all day for your viewing/commenting pleasure. Until later...
