Georgia Men's Lacrosse Team Snaps Losing Streak with Double-Digit SELC Win Over Wake Forest on Sunday ------<#)

In Nashville this afternoon, the Georgia men’s club lacrosse team notched its initial victory of the young season, taking charge early and cruising to a 16-2 triumph over winless Wake Forest to even the Athenians’ SELC ledger at 1-1.

The Bulldogs got on the board first with a goal by junior attack Michael Trainer. Freshman attack Phil McCarthy followed that up with an unassisted score, and Trainer tacked on another to give the Red and Black a 3-0 lead at the end of the opening period. The ‘Dawgs continued to pour it on, with junior defenseman Jackson Ruck later finding the back of the net to make the margin 7-0.

Following a goal by the Demon Deacons, senior defenseman Jake Cooper and junior midfielder D.J. Nuckolls scored to give the Athenians a 9-1 advantage. Wake Forest added its second goal of the contest, but McCarthy answered with two minutes remaining in the period to send the game to intermission with Georgia holding a 10-2 edge.

The second half featured more of the same, with goals by Trainer, senior midfielder Conner Reed, McCarthy, junior midfielder Evan Hamrick, freshman midfielder Wade Buffington, and freshman attack Dylan Seely, coupled with assists by senior midfielder Bobby Merryman, Nuckolls, sophomore midfielder Cayman Sotudeh, sophomore attack Jake Sciotto, and sophomore midfielder Evan Sather.

The Bulldogs will be back in action in the Golden State on Friday night as part of a Valentine’s Day weekend that will see the Georgia men’s and women’s club lacrosse teams between them compete in a half-dozen outings in California.
