If all recruits were as solid the day they committed to the school of their choice as Kendall Baker was on July 3rd, 2013, there would absolutely be no drama to write about leading up to signing day. Baker, a 6' 6" 275 lb (or, 295 depending on the source) defensive lineman out of Marist, was originally recruited by Bryan McClendon and former defensive line coach Chris Wilson is versatile enough to probably play on offense or defense.
After Baker committed, he told Dawgs247, "I got recruited as a defensive lineman going to Georgia, but if they ask me to play offense, that's fine with me." When asked why he chose Georgia: "It's like a pride thing...getting out there, playing for my home state. I've been here all my life. I was born and raised here, and now getting the chance to represent them feels good." Sounds like this kid just wants to contribute where his skill-sets best fit and is open to any possibilities. Sounds to me like Baker will be a pleasure to coach. This attitude is one of the reasons he's already one of my favorite recruits.
At 6 foot, 6 inches tall and probably still growing a bit, I think he'll continue to add on some height and may be a bit too "lengthy" to put his hands down and get the type of pad level required for maximum leverage on the defensive line - although he's athletic enough to learn the technique. I think this kid is going to play tackle at some point because of his tremendous wing span and his lower body strength. A year in the weight room should pay dividends in the not-so-distant future. Baker's greatest natural assets are his frame and his quick feet. He'll need to work on quickness, but I like his upside on offense.
It's a pride thing...playing for my home state...and now getting a chance to represent them feels good.

Two of the three major recruiting services rate Baker as a 4-Star, with the other lists him as a 3-Star. Georgia beat out Auburn and Florida State, among others, for his commitment.
Welcome, Kendall Baker. GATA!
