Georgia struggles with Florida pressure in 72-50 loss

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia fell behind early and never recovered as they fell to 2-1 in the SEC with a 72-50 loss to No. 7 Florida.

If Tuesday's game in Gainesville was a test then the Bulldogs failed miserably. An early 24-4 run by Florida sealed Georgia's fate early and the Bulldogs looked powerless against the Gators' pressure in what turned out to be a 72-50 loss.

To put this game in perspective you need only look at the stats from the first half. The Bulldogs trailed 36-16 at the break. They shot just over 31 percent in the first half. Georgia turned the ball over 12 times in the first half which simply can't happen against a team as talented as Florida particularly on their home floor.

From that point on the game was essentially over. The Bulldogs whittled the lead down to as little as 14 in the second half but never seriously threatened to get back in the game. Freshman Juwan Parker led the Bulldogs with 13 points and Marcus Thornton turned in another good performance with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Florida did a good job holding Charles Mann and Kenny Gaines in check who were instrumental in the first two conference wins. Mann finished with eight points on 3-7 shooting but was saddled with five turnovers. Gaines finished with just four points on 1-8 shooting to go along with three turnovers of his own. Nemanja Djurisic played 18 minutes and missed both of his field goal attempts while finishing with three points and two rebounds. Any night that Mann and Djurisic combine for nine field goal attempts is going to be a tough one for Georgia.

Michael Frazier led the Gators with 21 points including five made three pointers. Dorian Finney-Smith added 14 off the bench while Will Yequete chipped in 12.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday against a tough Arkansas team at Stegeman Coliseum.
