Hatterwocky

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Deciding what to write the past few weeks has been hard at times, but this selection is the one thing I knew I wanted to do from the moment I started thinking about this season. The SEC is the best conference in the land (It's a fact!), so it only stands to reason that the SEC would also have some of the best coaches in the land. Much conversation has already taken place on this blog about the similarities and good relationship between us and LSU; one of those topics was, naturally, the virtues of our coaches. The984 says it best, I think: "College football, and the SEC in particular, is more fun to watch when the Mad Hatter's around." I couldn't agree more, which is why I used Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky" for inspiration this week. Nobody eats grass and claps with gusto like the Mad Hatter, and few coaches are as entertaining to watch or interview. Lewis Carroll is known for his unconventional poetry full of made-up words and fantastical creatures, so what could be more appropriate for a big-time ballgame featuring Dawgs and Tigers and Gameday's talking heads and Evil Richt and the Mad Hatter and is it Saturday yet?! With apologies to Lewis Carroll:

‘Twas chillig in the earlish fall,

when Dogs and Tigles gridironed.

Fans were frentic for footfalls

of ballers all upfired.

"Beware the Hatterwock, my Dawgs!

The teeth that grass, though clocks may catch!

‘Ware ClapClap coach's dialogue

and lucklious Victrysnatch!"

Richt took his Murray gun in hand;

he Mettenburger outperformed.

Some snicker-snack with his Gurley back

bemuffed the misinformed.

And as Richt perched on sideline's edge,

the Hatterwock, with Tigers' eyes,

came niffling at the Sanford Hedge,

in search of dewish highs!

One one! Three four! And several more

turned Hatterwocky's head around.

The hedge he left-with newish cleft-

but took smartesse profound.

Yet didst they slay the Hatterwock

‘midst madsome momes of teamish joy.

"O Dawgjous Day! Take that, Gameday!"

Said Bulldogs with enjoy.

‘Twas chillig in the earlish fall,

when Dogs and Tigles gridironed.

Fans were frentic for footfalls

of ballers all upfired.
