The Mark Richt Victory Watch: Number 120.

In a game which remained in doubt far longer than it should have, but which nevertheless ended as expected, the Georgia Bulldogs downed the North Texas Mean Green by a score of 45-21.

This means it is once again time for me to assume the mantle of T. Kyle King, Editor Emeritus of Dawg Sports, raconteur, and acclaimed authority on edged weapons of the Crimean War in updating the Mark Richt Victory Watch. With this win the Mark Richt Victory Watch now stands at 120. Coach Richt is just 81 wins shy of tying Vince Dooley for the all-time Georgia record, and 20 shy of tying Coach Butts for second place. After 161 games as the Bulldogs’ head coach, Mark Richt remains, despite the shrill cries of some with memories to short to remember those who came before him, the most statistically accomplished skipper in Red and Black gridiron history.

Richt boasts a 120-41 record and a .745 winning percentage. At the identical juncture in their respective careers, Wally Butts stood at 104-50-7 following a 21-7 loss to the Florida Gators, while Vince Dooley boasted a 106-50-5 ledger following a 42-3 thrashing of the Ole Miss Rebels. Coach Butts boasted a winning percentage of .646 and Coach Dooley stood at .658 for their respective careers after the same number of games.

Now Coach Richt will lead his charges into battle against another top 10 opponent in one of those games that defines seasons. Win and the 'Dawgs will have dodged likely their biggest challenge between here and a return December engagement in the Georgia Dome. Lose and the "Mark Richt has lost control of Aaron Murray's performance in big games" meme reemerges. No pressure, Coach. Until later . . .

Go 'Dawgs!!!
