UGA golfer Patrick Reed (at UGA for 2 years before transferring for personal reasons) turned pro after the 2011 NCAA championship. In 2011 he played in several PGA events and then bumped to the Nationwide tour to work on his game. In 2012 he played in 12 PGA events with sponsor exemptions with little success, forcing him to PGA Tour Qualifying Event "Q School" in 2013 where he earned his way back on tour and began making cuts and having some success with a top ten finish at the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach. Patrick married Justine Karain this year who worked the bag at Q school for him, surely becoming both wife and good luck charm.
Today Patrick started the 4th round on top of the leader board and hung in position all day but Jordan Speith caught up to him to force a sudden death playoff. Reed and Speith battled at the top of the leader board for most of the day. Reed made a birdie to Speith's par on the second playoff hole carding him his first PGA victory. And his wife didnt have to wait for the victory hug! He finished with a strong 266 total, -14 for the 4 rounds and a 66 on the day.
