The University of Georgia women's tennis team defeated Alabama in the SEC tournament semi-finals by a 4-2 score in Starkville. After taking the doubles point, Georgia took a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win by Lauren Herring at the No. 1 position. Bama came back to tie it, 2-2 by defeating UGA's Maho Kowase (6-4, 6-3) and Ayaka Okuno (6-4, 6-3). Kate Fuller gave the lead back to Georgia with her comeback win at No. 5 (2-6, 6-1, 6-3). Silvia Garcia clinched the fourth and winning point at No. 3 (7-5, 3-6, 6-3).
With the win, UGA will advance to tomorrow's championship match against the winner of this evening's Texas A&M vs. Florida match. The third-ranked Dawgs already secured a share of the regular-season SEC championship. Georgia lost to co-champs #2 Florida, 4-1, during the regular season, but defeated co-champs #4 Texas A&M, 4-2.
