Your Georgia Bulldogs are currently holding a 14-6 lead over an Appalachian State squad which has so far looked about as outmatched as you would expect a powerhouse Southern Conference team to look against a top 10 SEC opponent with all it's weapons on display.
Wait. Georgia's not a top 10 team with all it's weapons? Appalachian State is 2-7, and not so powerful?Well, then this is going slightly less well than one might expect. The two teams are even in first downs (12) and Georgia has a slight advantage in total yardage (215 to 180). A lot of that has come from some of the fluffiest zone defense of the Todd Grantham era, a strategy which is kind of disappointing. I mean, if we can't cover the Mountaineer receivers one on one, what are we going to do against Auburn's receiving corps next week? Will it involve tasers and duct tape?
On the bright side, Aaron Murray is now your all time SEC leader in touchdown passes, having passed Danny Wuerffel. I presume Steve Spurrier just called Wuerffel and benched him for allowing this to happen. And Todd Gurley has looked solid if not explosive in grinding out 54 yards on 9 carries. If past is truly prologue, this is the portion of the game in which the Red and Black snap to and pull away to make the final score look respectable.
Let's see if the boys from Athens can find their focus, finish strong, stay healthy, and move on to the Plains for a match up with Auburn. Enjoy the second half, and . . .
Go 'Dawgs!!!
