Instantaneous Ill-Informed Roundball Recap: Georgia 72 Wofford 52

Woooo! - Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia's men's hoops began their season tonight hosting the Wofford Terriers.  Thanks in part to a bunch of free throws and a 49-24 rebounding advantage, the Dawgs prevailed 72-52 (larger than any margin of victory last season).

Thanks to not being televised, this recap is rather ill-informed and mostly drawn from the box score.  Georgia jumped out to a 19 point lead at half time, and just maintained throughout the second half.  Freshmen JJ Frazier, Kenny Paul Geno, Juwan Parker, and JUCO Cameron Forte all got minutes, and points.  Junior Marcus Thornton also got back on the floor after missing most of last season redshirting following knee surgery.  Thornton finished with 3 pts, 2 rebounds, a block and an assist.  Frazier chipped in 6 pts, Parker and Geno had 2 pts, and Forte scored 9 on 4 of 5 shooting.

Thornton started, alongside Charles Mann (7 pts, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3/3 FTs), Kenny Gaines (10 pts, 6 rebounds, 2/2 FTs), Donte Williams (11 pts, 9 rebounds, 3/6 FTs), and Nemi Djurisic (12 pts, 7 boards, 4/4 FTs).  Defensively, the Dawgs held the Terriers to 19 of 50 shooting from the floor, including just 2 of 14 on 3 pt attempts.  Offensively, they drastically reduced turnovers from the exhibition, where they had 24, to only 9 tonight.  The team only hit 2 of 11 from 3, but 50% from inside the arc (23 of 46, which makes 25 of 57 overall and just under 44%).  They also appeared to have done a great job attacking the rim, making 29 attempts from the FT line and sinking 20 of them.

Georgia returns to action on next Friday, when they square off against Georgia Tech at 7:00 in Stegeman.  Yep, GEORGIA TECH IN STEGEMAN NEXT FRIDAY!  For those of us who can't make it, the game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.

GO DAWGS!
