On the same weekend that Dragon*Con was taking place in Atlanta, the Georgia Bulldogs paid homage to "Star Trek" by beating the Buffalo Bulls, 45-23, to post a final margin identical to the stardate from the famous original series episode "The Trouble with Tribbles." Well played, ‘Dawgs; well played.
Actually, there were significant stretches in which it wasn’t well played; at times, the Bulldogs looked like Todd Gurley and his backup group, the girlie men, but this result still affords us an opportunity to update the Mark Richt Victory Watch, in which we count down each win in our current head coach’s march toward the day he inevitably overtakes Vince Dooley’s school record of 201 triumphs.
The Mark Richt Victory watch now stands at 107. Coach Richt needs just 94 more victories to tie Coach Dooley atop the Georgia wins list.
After 145 games as the Bulldogs’ head coach, Mark Richt has a 107-38 record and a .738 winning percentage. At the same point in their respective careers in the Classic City, Wally Butts was 97-41-7 and Vince Dooley was 98-42-5. Both Coach Butts and Coach Dooley had .693 winning percentages 145 games into their tenures in Athens.
Go ‘Dawgs!
