Because I published the Sunday summary early, there was one sporting event that was not included (aside from sports, such as tennis, which typically are reserved for separate coverage; this week's tennis recap will be especially interesting, incidentally, because Saturday's scheduled women's tennis match resulted in a forfeit, which isn't something you see every day), on which I now report in order to bring you up to speed; to wit:
The Georgia softball team carded a 4-3 win over Kentucky in Lexington to avoid being swept by the Wildcats. The hits were tied at seven per side, but the Bulldogs made the most of theirs, led by freshman Paige Wilson's three-for-three, two-double, one-homer, two-RBI afternoon. Erin Arevalo conceded just two earned runs in the course of carding her 18th victory of the season. Arevalo struck out nine.
Aided by a fielding error, Kentucky closed the gap in the fourth inning, cutting a three-run deficit to a one-run margin, but the Athenians added an insurance run in the seventh stanza to improve to 34-10.
