Optimistic about 3 Games

I know this is getting ahead of myself but I wrote on my blog about why I'm cautiously optimistic on what could potentially be Georgia's next three games. Here are my thoughts:

1. Georgia Tech

It's one of the few times when I can realistically think, "I sure am glad Georgia played Georgia Southern last week." Facing Ga. Southern gave the Bulldogs an extra week to prepare against the triple option offense, which I think will pay huge dividends when they face Paul Johnson's offense on Saturday. Georgia Tech has started to find some rhythm on the offensive side of the ball over the past few weeks, but I think Georgia's speed at linebacker and in the secondary will make it difficult for Tech's players to get to the edge and make big plays. And considering the fact that Aaron Murray is currently playing at a ridiculously high level and the Yellow Jacket defense has shown the ability to stop NO ONE, I expect the Dawgs to be able to put up a lot of points and comfortably make their way to the Georgia Dome for the showdown with Alabama.

2. Alabama

Assuming #1 occurs and Alabama doesn't shoot itself in the face (it wouldn't take anything less than that) against Auburn, this game will be the National Semifinal. I know UGA will be the underdog and most people will pick Alabama, but I don't think I would want this to play out any other way. I've made no secret about my admiration for Alabama and the way Nick Saban has built his program. In my opinion, the Crimson Tide are the measuring stick by which you have to evaluate the success of your college football program. They've set the standard, and the SEC Championship game will provide us with an opportunity to see where Georgia matches up against that standard. And in order to be deserving of a National Championship, I think it's fitting that the Dawgs would have to go through Alabama to get to that championship. These are the types of games you want your players to look forward to, and I really hope Georgia's players are up for the challenge because they certainly have the talent and ability to pull the upset.

3. Notre Dame

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Notre Dame lost to USC this Saturday. Everything looks like it should favor the Irish, which is precisely the reason why I think USC might win. If the BCS has taught us anything, it's to expect the unexpected. However, if the Irish are able to beat the Fighting Kiffins and Georgia can get past Alabama, I like UGA's chances in the BCS Championship game. I think Georgia's athleticism on defense, particularly the speed and physicality of the front seven, will present problems for the Notre Dame offense and I wonder how Notre Dame's freshman quarterback will handle the big stage. Georgia also has speed at the wide receiver position and a physical running back who could present problems for the Irish. I'm hoping Todd Gurley can channel his inner Herschel Walker to bring back memories of Herschel running through the Notre Dame defense en-route to a National Championship. And if these three things end up happening, I hope I will be in attendance at the game in Miami to celebrate with the rest of the Dawgs.
