I'm asking this as an honest question to the small amount of the fanbase represented here at Dawg Sports. I haven't been on the Fire Mark Richt bandwagon, and I'm hesitant to jump aboard that train because I'm wanting to give him another shot. Last year the rationale was that we were giving him more time to right the ship. And he did, to a point. With a soft schedule, we beat everyone that we should have beaten, and lost to the 3 good teams that we played. This year we have so far beaten everyone that we should have beaten (all have losing records) and been destroyed by the only good team we've played.
We've all seen the stat about Coach Richt being 0-10 against teams that finished ranked in the last 3 years. If he loses to Florida on Saturday is that it for you? Based on how we've performed thus far this season and how Florida has, I think it'll move me to the camp that says that we appreciate what Richt has done, but it's time to move in another direction. Moving in another direction via "cleaning house" of our coaching staff presents challenges and the potential to land in a worse situation than we are now. But I think we're at the point where if we can't start beating good teams like we used to, it makes more sense to start the process of a new coaching search sooner than later. I'm not saying we should fire Richt before the end of the year, but if we lose to Florida, we don't play another other good team until a potential Capital One Bowl. Our indication of where we're headed is driven in large part by what happens this weekend.
I was at the Lexington game this weekend, and I haven't been that upset watching a Georgia game since the Donnan days. Yes, we won. We beat a now 1-7 Kentucky team, and we needed recovery of an onside kick in the closing minutes in order to do so. There is no reason why we shouldn't have beaten them by at least 2 touchdowns. I had a great time seeing the Dawgs again, but I was upset by how poorly our defense played and by the play of our offensive line. Just a very poor effort that I could excuse if it were the first couple games of the season, but not at this point of the year.
So if you could give me your vote and your comments that flesh that out, I'm all ears.
