Brandon Boykin/Brian VanGorder/Jordan Jenkins/BCS National Championship Game Open Comment Thread

So, what would you like to discuss?

Brandon Boykin has been honored with the Paul Hornung Award. Brian VanGorder has been dishonored with the defensive coordinator’s job at Auburn University. Harris County linebacker Jordan Jenkins is scheduled to announce his college choice at 7:00 p.m. Eastern tonight on Fox Sports South. The SEC West BCS National Championship Game is this evening. To top it all off, today is Richard Nixon’s 99th birthday.

That should give you plenty to talk about, so have at it in the comments below.

I guess I'm the only one

who will be rooting for Bama just a little bit. While in general I do like LSU better, the mischievous part of me really wants to see all the whining and complaining and confusion if Bama wins. I don’t care that much either way, and I have nothing against LSU beyond the usual dislike for any other SEC team. But I’m not a big fan of the BCS system, and anything that undermines it is fine in my book.

Betting on college football is for people who find the outcomes of squirrel races contested upon miniature minefields entirely too predictable. ~MaconDawg

So take the lesser of two Evils??

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

The oversigning of both schools is a legit complaint.

But LSU and Les Miles doesnt stir up my desire to want to punch something like Bama and Saban. It would be great if everyone in the SEC got fully on board against oversigning except Bama and then Saban could be rode out of town by the media hate.

I'm glad the SEC is garunteed another MNC...

But if i’m honest i’d rather see LSU wax OkSt. over the coals. Bama played them already and lost. Are they the unquestioned #2 team in the nation? No doubt, but i would think this game would have more excitement around it if OkSt. was playing in it.

I'm with you on that one.

Everything he did to rebuild confidence with the ten game streak was flushed down the toilet. It totally contradicted the Energy Bus, Finish the Drill, and the Georgia Way motivational themes he has used. Not to mention, it came back full circle to the attitude that resulted in kicking a field goal on 4th and short in the Liberty Bowl. You can’t expect your players to give 100% when you half-ass trying to win a game.

Good question.

I may have come across as saying I’m anti-Richt because of that one series. My position is simply that Richt is contradictory. Actually, that he chose to go for it early in the game further suggests that he’s inconsistent with the playing to win attitude.

I can’t wrap my mind around how the team I watched on Monday was the team that converted several 4th downs for TD’s against Florida and found countless creative avenues to move the ball on South Carolina (even though we still lost).

It’s as if Richt and company want to make the transition into the killer instinct but are unable to let go of their super-conservative tendencies.

But other than that… no. There are no rules. Just kill the guy with the ball.

by Swarles_Barkley on Jan 9, 2012 10:46 PM EST up reply actions

Absolutely correct.

The right thing to do would have been giving them the title after the SEC championship. At that point, through those first 13 games, no other team in the country had near the resume that LSU had. You can take any team in the country and hypothetically say they beat LSU, then compare [hypothetical team]‘s record vs LSU’s record, and LSU still is the most impressive.

by Swarles_Barkley on Jan 9, 2012 10:45 PM EST up reply actions

I don't really understand the frustration w/the rematch.

There are plenty of rematches in the NFL postseason, and no one cares. If the goal of the NCG is to pit the 2 best teams in the country at the end of the regular season, then this makes perfect sense to me. We no longer care which of these 2 teams was better weeks ago. What matters is who’s better now. And, incidentally, it appears that may have changed.

True

But if the goal is to pit the two best teams against one another in the NCG (and what happened weeks ago doesn’t matter), Georgia and USC would’ve played in 2007. Not saying I think that should have happened, but my point is, the criteria for playing in the NCG are whatever they decide they are that year.

If LSU hadn't oversigned so much, their defense would be exhausted and giving up point after point.

Interesting to see this LSU team with no confidence or swagger though.

That’s what happens when the offense produces nothing despite a great defensive performance.

Eventually… you just can’t stay in the game. Unless there’s a game-changing play, I think Bama will drive down and get a TD soon.
