Coach Lakatos strikes again. Needed him this class.

Seriously.
With a little work on tackling, he could be a gem. This class is shaping up real nice as far as addressing needs. Let’s lock down Young, make sure that JHC comes to Athens, get Patterson to let us borrow his talents for a season, and then get on with it.

Lists him as a RB / CB / Athlete
They actually list him as a RB first, and as the #8 RB in the country. With how thin we might potentially be at RB, I’d imagine he’ll get some playing time (or at least some practice looks) there.

Clarification
As the #8 “Athlete” in the country. But it says he was recruited by Will Friend, who is the OL coach, so I’d expect him to play some offense.

hopefully
Marshall and Gurley will push Crowell and our depth problems will be solved. (This means that 2 hours from now, Gurley will get deported, Marshall will tear his ACL windsurfing, and Crowell limps to class after standing on the bus.)

If he can play DB, we need him in the back.
We lose three of four projected starters next year. But I will note that there’s a pretty good crop of recent UGA DBs who made a little noise on offense…

Yes, he is not going to be a RB. That would make 4 Fr RBs. We needed DBs.

I'm pretty sure
we don’t want a guy the size of Boykin playing O-line in the SEC.

The word is...
He will be used like Boykin- DB, with potential to play offense and return on ST.
I believe Memphis was recruiting him as a RB and Ole Miss promised him a shot on Offense, but UGA told him Defense and some other opportunities.
Also, do you really think we will be thin at RB?
Crowell, Marshall, Gurley, Samuel, Thomas & possibly Harton.
I don't think it's the length of that list...
so much as the fact that there is not one name on that list who has proven on the field to be reliable at the college level. I’m not being pessimistic, but it’s a fact. Hopefully we found some guys in Marshall and Gurley who we can rely on.

Me too
Being surrounded by guys like Marshall and Gurley should help, both for motivation and for character.

Also, used in a rotation like LSU had
The guys should stay fresh and not wear down as much as the season goes on.
I think a key thing is
that ANY running back would look great if the O-line knocked over the guy they were supposed to block. That and that IC was banged up more than we expected him to be.
Case and point: the Auburn game. We could’ve had a nose guard running 20 yds at a time the way the line blocked that game.

That's a list of names
But I have very little confidence that Samuel, Thomas, Harton or Malcome will ever be excellent backs. RS4 is a DGD but he’s never really going to fill our needs. None of those guys are pro players.
If we’re looking for a first-string quality back, we’ve got Crowell, who even his supporters admit is flaky, and two unproven (but talented) true freshmen. Couldn’t hurt to have another very talented kid in the mix. Of course, we need DBs as well. That’s an equally valid point.
