The Get Mike Bobo Hired Away Thread

As many of us have postulated in many comments on here, it is evident that Mike Bobo is not going to get an offer to leave the program to take advantage of better horizons and to enhance his coaching career outside of Athens. I know that this fact disheartens many UGA fans; almost as much as the fact that Coach Mark Richt is having a more difficult choice in removing Mike Bobo from the program than he had in removing Willie Martinez. I now have to think that Mike Bobo has settled in and probably has very little desire in searching for offers that would allow for him to improve his professional career. Here is my proposal; we take it upon ourselves to find avenues of potential excellence for Mike Bobo and encourage him to explore advancing his career outside of Athens, GA. If you would like to join, in your comments below please include real potential vacant positions that Mike Bobo would consider. I mean while many of us think that a flag football program is too advanced for him, he would not feel that is reasonable job advancement. Since we must assume he is just as lazy challenged in looking for career advancements as he is in making game plans or 2nd half adjustments; let's make this as simple as possible and include contact information and where Mr. Bobo can find relevant information for the open position. As I did in the Post Outback Bowl Thread I will kick off this outreach of assistance to Mike Bobo a position that I have found that may interest him. So Mike, please don't dawdle, update your resume and submit for the position at the Houston Baptist University

A new program is starting FBS play in 2014. It is based in a recruiting haven and with no existing program in place there are no immediate expectations. I would encourage Mike Bobo to explore the head coaching vacancy at Houston Baptist University. Mike, you can see the posting requirements at this web site: http://www.hbu.edu/hbu/Head_Football_Coach.asp?SnID=2

I'm gonna suggest that Bobo pursues a position in "Career Coaching"

Like the ones found here http://www.dandbconsulting.com/

Based in Atlanta so he can keep his brood where they are and I think the job title alone might be enough to fool him into taking it.

“But Coach Bobo, I can’t seem to get hired… Nothing works!”

“Look man, the fact that it isn’t working just means that you’re one big break away! Your resume’, cover letter, and interview skills aren’t working? So what? Just keep doing what you’re doing over and over and over. It’s bound to work eventually!”

CMB can do this job… And do it well.

Maybe Athens Academy or Cedar Shoals needs a good coach?

Clarke Central and Prince Avenue already have good ones in place. Perhaps we can entice him to Oconee County or maybe Athens Academy with free tuition for his kids.

That's no small compensation package, either, with as many children as he has.

I mean, with Athens Academy’s tuition rates? I mean, dang, son.

I understand they need coaches in Tennesee

Andthat there is a semi shameful Georgia tie-in there.

I got an idea!

We (the entire collection of alumni from UGA, all of us) need to take up a collection that would equal the next decade in salary for Bobo and just give it to him. The only stipulation is…he must leave the OC behind, burn his playbook, scatter the ashes in the Pacific, and he can never, never, never apply to another position at UGA. That should make it easy for Richt to do what’s gotta be done. Richt saves face, Bobo’s kids get to continue to eat and get Christmas presents, Bobo’s game plans are eradicated from the face of the Earth…problem solved.

After all, I don’t hate the guy and he’s basically been a DGD, so a little severance package to convince him to pursue other avenues might be acceptable to many inclined to give to such a fund.

Back off, man. I'm a scientist.

The UGA AA could pay that without batting an eye.

And I’d be ok with it.

I’ve actually started to put together list in response to the “well, who should we hire as his replacement?” folks.

Lots of promising guys out there.

So, far I’ve got Todd Monken (OC at Okie State), Josh Heupel (Co-OC, QB coach, calls plays at Oklahoma), Pep Hamilton (OC at Stanford), Bruce Arians (OC for the Steelers and would be a great fit without a big change in system), Joe Lombardi (young guy rapidly moving up in the coaches world. QB coach for the Saints), and Tom Clements (longtime NFL coach QB coach for the Packers).

Some of those guys would be big changes. Some would not. All could do more with our talent IMO than Bobo has.

I could make a much longer, more in-depth post but I’m not sure anyone would want to read it nor do I know where to post it.

I also want to get the list up to 10 and not just 6.

Can't find that info.

Pro teams don’t usually publish that kind of stuff on coaches. Unlike colleges, they don’t have to.

He’s Vince Lombardi’s son though, so he may not be interested in coaching college. The Packers’ QB coach looks promising too. We just gotta get rid of Bobo first haha.

lots of googling tells me

Probably somewhere between 400k and 700k, depending ok how much they value him in NOLA. Could be as low as 250 or so though since he’s a young dude.

Bet he’d be a good recruiter though. Young coaches usually are. I’m willing to give him a shot. And he can install the Saints’ offense here.

We can match 700k easy.

We underpaid CTG

750k and he was a DL Coach, and I consider that a steal after 2 years. Invest the same in a NFL QB coach with experience with a excellent QB and knowledge of a high-powered offense. PULL THE TRIGGER

I think we could get just about anyone, financially-speaking.

Except maybe the Steelers’ OC. And it’s absolutely possible that T. Boone would pay whatever to keep Monken at OSU. But… The 2 NFL QB coaches should be easily obtainable (if we were looking and they were interested). Hamilton from Stanford and Heupel from OU should totally be obtainable as well (if they’re interested).

We just need the vacancy. And Coach Richt probably have to be willing to let those guys run the offense however they wanted.

by DocSkraynj on Jan 3, 2012 11:38 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

I dont think we have any offensive identity as it is.

When you run a play action pass on 3rd and long after not running the ball, or running it poorly up the gut, you don’t have an offensive scheme. I have long, long been arguing that the play action formula only works when you use it. You can mix and match it. We go spread, we go under center, we go wild dawg, we go to Boykin or Smith, we run draws on 3rd and long. Its so haphazard there is seemingly no plan. And we know for a fact Bobo goes for “balance” unless the run game starts killing them, like Auburn. What bothers me so much is Richt has to know this. You cant mix spread and play action and expect to fool anyone. Most college offenses have a variety of schemes, and the good OCs dont care what they use (this is critical) they find formulas that work with the talent they have. This is Bobo’s greatest weakness. He runs a great offense “if” the players would just do what he wanted! But he doesn’t analyze what they can and can’t do well, and then find a good scheme. Was there any doubt MSU had a good run defense? Not to me. All I had to do is look up some stats and watch a little film. Yet, we did nothing to scheme around that fact. Nothing to work the short game to free up the run a little. grrr.

And pay CTG 1.5 million a year for 3 years.

After reading Mike Leach's book

I wondered if our playbook is too thick. And we don’t spend enough time getting reallllly good at any plays in particular.

No matter your opinion on Leach, there’s merit to a lot of his opinions about offense. One of those ideas is to choose the plays that will work against the defense you will face and practice the hell out of them. Also, don’t have too many plays. The same play from multiple formations is easier and can be more effective than a bunch of plays from a bunch of formations. Quite simply, you can execute the plays better and faster that way. I think we may be asking college kids to learn too many plays. I’d rather we pick out the really good plays and practice the hell out of them. It makes no sense to see a play half way through the season that works perfectly, wonder where it came from, then never ever see it again.

With a complete understanding that the game is much more complex today,

wouldnt it be nice to see a guy run in a play to the huddle and just run it? Back to my mantra, this standing around looking for the play – it aint working. So dont do it. How about call a “Dawg X slot right on 2, ready break” and just go run the dang thing.

This

do we run a power running game behind a FB with play action passing worked in? Are we a shotgun spread team? Are we a pass to set up the run? Do we run to set up the pass? Just what are we trying to do offensively?

IMO, that goes back to your leadership complaint. We don’t have a clear focus and direction offensively.
