the BS for tOSU continues
Not only did OSU get to beat Arkansas with players that shouldn't have been eligible... and get the winnings from that game. Not only did they get to have 2 coaching staffs so Corch could get a leg up on recruiting this season, but now they also get bowl money from the big10+2.
Actually, I was thinking the other day, if the NCAA (one of the worst run organizations EVER) wanted to get serious about teams that cheat, not only would they take away scholarships and ban teams from bowl games, but they would take away bowl profits from teams that had been cheating during those games. In other words, I am suggesting that tOSU should have had to forfeit the game against Arkansas, pay Arkansas the difference between the payout for winner vs. loser and then take the remaining money and surrender it to the NCAA so they can misappropriate it somewhere.

Good thought, fotodog.
Doesn’t the Big Ten divide bowl revenue like we do, with each team getting a share? If so, just render teams on NCAA probation ineligible for receiving that year’s bowl share, which could be divided among the other teams in the league (probably the worst punishment, as it gives the cheaters’ conference rivals an additional leg up) or donated to charity (certainly the most socially useful solution, as it benefits a worthy cause . . . and because dividing the forfeited share among the rest of the league would give too much of an incentive to rat out rival schools).

I agree that dividing it among the other teams...
would be the most appropriate punishment. I understand conferences not wanting to do this, though, as this could lead to some ugly in conference fighting. Donating the share to charity is my preference, and I believe OSU did donate their share of the money from last year to charity (at least they planned to do that – so they did not get the winnings from that game as fotodog claims – OSU also did forfeit the game against Arkansas). I have no idea what the reasoning is for them to get a share next year though. I think that money should also be donated to charity.
T Kyle: What’s your thoughts on the 2 coaching staffs thing? This seems to be a pretty common practice.
And yes, the Big 10 divides equally. Well, Nebraska might not be equal yet. I recall reading that would take a year or so to kick in.
When I was at UGA, the students didnt have much at all for facilities. We had a horrible gym and not much in the way of computer labs. I lived in 2 of the oldest dorms on campus (since renovated). It kinda sucked.
I wouldnt have a problem with the money going to a punished school, as long as it went to the students in a very reasonable way, such as renovating a dorm, a new student center, new computer lab, new gym gear, etc. It would have to be carefully tracked and monitored, but I hate the idea of the students being punished over what the coaches do. $400k could do a lot to help kids that barely make ends meet and struggle through school for various reasons. $400k in the schools Outdoor Rec program would be like a lotto win. Just as long as it has nothing to do with the Athletic Department. In most cases, it is the coaches and various members of the Athletic Program that cause the suspensions and probation, and sometimes even the President. Punish them. Help the students.

Good point, tankertoad.
Regarding the two coaching staffs, kmzipsgolf, I don’t have a problem with it, as long as only one staff can recruit.
