Orson Charles is Going Pro, Rambo stays put
On the plus side, if the Bulldogs win the national championship next year, we won't have to worry about him breaking it with his butt!
UPDATE: Now multiple sources are reporting that Bacarri Rambo has officially decided to stay for his senior year. So, there's our first piece of good news this year!

Hypothetically,
If Orson Charles had stayed at Georgia, and next year we went 11-1 losing only in overtime time to a team that went on to be the SEC champion, played a re-match with that team which we won, on a last second touchdown catch by Orson Charles, and he went on to break the resulting crystal football trophy with his butt, and someone said, Orson Charles only breaks national champion’s trophy’s, would you contradict them?

Good luck, Big O!
You’re a DGD, and I look forward to using you as an excuse to watch games on Sundays.

Orson Charles will always be one of my top-5 favorite DGD's...
… solely because of the national championship trophy thing.
(I hate Florida.)
Best of luck in the NFL, dangerous ass-man.

Go Dawgs!
We'll miss you, OC.
Thanks for three brilliant years.
I have mixed feelings.
On the one hand, he’s a damn good dawg and wish him best of luck.
On the other, its sad to know that his leaving won’t have that much of an affect due to Bobo’s inability to take advantage of Orson Charles and the mismatches he creates. He was under utilized all season long, so maybe I will get to see what he can achieve with an NFL offensive mind behind the scheming.

Hate to see him go
but after the way Bobo overused depended on ignored him in the Outback Bowl, I can’t blame him. DGD and a bright future in the NFL
I HATE ORANGE, and DGNBs
This NFL season was good to OC
Though Bobo grossly underutilized Charles, the utter dominance of recently drafted NFL tight ends this year (Graham with New Orleans, Gronkowski with NE, Pettigrew with Detroit, and Hernandez with NE) helped his stock tremendously.
The Patriots and Saints both proved that even a young tight end can completely change an offense. Hopefully Orson falls in with a team with a quarterback and dominates NFL defenses for a long time to come.
All, except for Hernandez
are taller than Charles. I think his 6’3 height will impact his draft status. Graham, Gronk, etc are 6’6+ types with the size to box out and out jump guys.

and several played college basketball...
maybe orson should’ve played a little bball. he couldn’t have been worse than a lot of guys we have on the basketball team.

Make us proud Orson!

I would like to know this too!
Although, we do have some great young talent at the safety position too.
I will never understand
How he only had one catch in the stupid Outback bowl… he was arguably our best offensive weapon on the field, and we ignored him. I’ll miss him, but we do have a lot of talent at that position. Good luck Orson! Go Dawgs!
Good luck, Orson Charles!
Thanks for outstanding contribution at UGA. Now go be an All-Pro recruiting tool for our coaching staff!
Witty phrase.

Orson was a damn good Dawg
and I loved his passion for the game and the team, but I do not view his departure as a huge loss.
In some schemes he might have been a difference maker, but in the Bobo world we live in, he was simply another target.
Maybe I do not understand the subtitles of the game to really comprehend the impact of his presence on the field.

Good luck to Orson
But due to his non-use in the Outback Bowl and other stretches of his career, I don’t blame him.
I’m definitely glad Rambo’s returning. It’s a smart move by him, for I truly don’t think he was quite ready. After another season of tackling cupcakes and pillows, he’ll certainly be a top round pick.

Sweet!
I hate to see Orson go, but, if our only early departure to the NFL is an underutilized player at a position at which we have depth, I’ll count us pretty darned lucky.

These are my thoughts, too...
It’s not that I don’t value Orson, for I do; but of all the players considering jumping to the NFL, he was the one I was least concerned about (Jenkins, on the other had, was most crucial returning player, in my opinion).
I hope he kills it in the NFL. Heck, I hope the Falcons consider taking him as a replacement for Gonzalez, especially of Charles drops out of the 1st Round.
GATA!
Depth wise, I wanted Charles so we could use some 2 TE sets...
matching him and Lynch or Rome to cause opposing Ds problems (that is assuming Bobo vists Donnan in prison to remember how to use a quality TE).
The one I was “least concerned about”, honestly, was Cornelius Washington. Nothing against him, but he hasn’t exactly flourished. He had a handful of very good games this year, but considering his immense physical gifts, I guess I had higher expectations on arrival is what I’m saying. But more than just that, is the depth we have at his position, with Jenkins now added, TJ Stripling developing, and several others behind what I assume is a starting pair of Jarvis Jones and Alec Ogletree outside (with some combo of Robinson, Herrera, and Gilliard at the inside spots).

Fair enough...
But I trust Grantham to wisely use more weapons more than I do Bobo.
Trust me, I understand the value of Charles, but we all know Bobo doesn’t.

Are they planning on moving Tree outside?
I hadn’t heard that.
by hailtogeorgia on Jan 12, 2012 12:18 PM EST up reply actions
He seemed to play a good bit outside once he came back from injury
and I hadn’t heard official word one way or the other. To be honest, I figure if asked, Grantham would stick with the coach-speak line of, we’re gonna get our best 11 on the field whoever that may be. So the above set up is just me spitballing my own ideas. Tree looked really, really good off the edge. Gilliard and Herrera and Robinson looked really good inside. Now injuries can always change things. But if I’m guessing our starting 11 against Buffalo right now, it’d go Smith, Jenkins, Abry Jones up front. Jarvis Jones and Tree at OLB. Gilliard at one spot and Herrera or Robinson at the other inside. With Commings and Smith at CB, Rambo and Williams at S. That’s just me though, and we’re a long ways off with a lot of time for players to rise and fall, get hurt, etc before then.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
Dang that's a scary group.
Given the flexibility of Tree and Commings, that group could be conceptualized as a 3-4, a 4-3 (with Jones at weakside DE), or a 4-2-5 with Tree at safety. If Ogletree continues to develop in coverage, he could be a very rich man one day. Having players with immense physical gifts makes a big difference in what you can do to solve offensive problems.
Jones, Tree, Washington, Drew, Robinson, Herrera, and GIlliard should each merit a starting spot. Maybe Stripling, too – and maybe Jenkins as a true freshman.
I hope the young guys step up big because we could lose Jones, Tree, Washington, Robinson, and Gilliard after next year.

Considering Tree has the size to match up with the new offensive love, the big athletic TE
if he can improve in coverage, he can definitely become a very, very rich man.

Does this free up a scholarship? The best thing OC ever did for the DAWGS is that trophy thing. A good Dawg for sure but like others have said. BFD. TEs. We got more. Maybe even better ones. No " But him and Murray were HS team mates so they know each other well." arguments. Bunk. The might have been good in HS but I don’t think they ever really got it together at the college speed level.

Seems like both guys made the right call.
Charles’s stock won’t rise too much with another year, but Rambo could really make a move – especially if he can put the Fudge days squarely in the rearview mirror.

That's right - and he's done growing.
I don’t think there’s much he could do next year that would change his draft grade because I think he’s going to be limited by his height, not his performance. To state it in a more nuanced fashion, the risk of injury plus the opportunity cost of turning down NFL money for a year plus the possibility of turning in a sub-par performance likely outweigh the possibility that he will deliever a performance sufficient to overcome questions about his height.

Jarvis Jones promises, and he delivers.
I wish we could clone him and put him at RB.
Congrats to Charles. All the best, he will be missed.

I've been doing some thinking.
Perhaps we should just punt the ball on all first downs. Our defense (a.k.a. the better half of the team) would be on the field the whole game. We very well could score more points and we wouldn’t have to worry about balance between the run and pass.
