Coach Bobo Speaks
Q: The offensive line issues against Boise State?
Bobo: "When you put yourself in too many of those situations, too many third and longs, any offensive line is gonna have some issues. There were some opportunities to make some plays on third down and we didn't. and then there were some protection breakdowns. It's just that percentages go down when you have third and long. And give that defense credit, they have a very good defensive line, very veteran and sound, and they executed at the right times better than we did."
Q: Obviously then, in getting to those third-and-longs, was that the run blocking?
Bobo: A little bit. Our plan going in was to take some shots early. We knew the second down was going to be important, and we didn't do as well on second (down) as we'd like to, and had too many third-and-longs. Sometimes we had second-and-six and ended up losing two. It got us third-and-8. And it's not necessarily the run-blocking on every particular play. Just a good play by them, sometimes it's not a good play call, sometimes we didn't execute. But we've just gotta keep playing. I think their team was a very good example of keep-playing. They were getting turned around sideways too and they just kept playing and found a way to make plays and keep momentum going, which we just couldn't do until it was almost too late."
