Last weekend we saw yet another national leader in punting resort to "Rugby Style Punting" in order to limit a receiving team from having a chance to return or even catch a punt. I am sorry, but I feel that the NCAA must address this aversion to the accepted rules of play. This is not what the classic football rules were meant to cover. I think that once a punter leaves the lateral lines between the two offensive guards (to allow for MINIMAL movement in order to SHAPE a punt) should be considered a RUNNING BACK and should be allowed to be tackled and hit regardless of the protection normally afforded to a kicker. The RUGBY Style of punting is an abomination to the game and SHOULD be discouraged.
