R.E.M. CALL IT A DAY
"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening." R.E.M.

I love R.E.M.
Maybe more than anyone on DawgSports. And of course I’ll miss seeing them on tour. But to me, R.E.M. broke up when Berry left. I’ve bought all the albums since and I’ve enjoyed them, but I’ve always looked at them as good albums produced by an R.E.M. side project. I could be sad about R.E.M. being gone…. but they aren’t gone. There is 30+ years of R.E.M. music that isn’t going anywhere.

In order to have a reunion tour...
A band must break up.
While I am saddened by this news, when it comes to bands, I’m never convinced it is truly over.
