Pray for Larry Munson's Good Health, But Be Rational and Respectful Regarding Rumors
As you doubtless have seen mentioned somewhere by now, rumors are flying regarding the health of Larry Munson. Several of us on the Dawg Sports team have received e-mails concerning these rumors, which have produced a great deal of activity on Twitter. The only newspaper story I have seen regarding these reports appears here, but, as noted in this comment thread, even that news report is conflicting, because the story linked to above appears to be a successor story to a previous report by the same news outlet containing a since-removed quotation from Loran Smith, who reportedly indicated that Munson was hospitalized but was not as gravely ill as the rumors had indicated.
Accordingly, we at Dawg Sports would urge everyone to remain cautious and respectful during this period of uncertainty. In the absence of a properly-sourced news report or a public statement from Munson's family or physician, or from Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, we would encourage you to offer continued thoughts and prayers for the good health of the voice of the Bulldogs, but otherwise to treat rumors as just that.
We hope Larry Munson will continue to be with us for a long time to come, and we will address breaking news once it is actually broken, or once we receive reports from what we consider to be legitimate sources. We try to be careful about reacting to rumors, particularly ones of this nature, and we would ask everyone to remain calm and rational in the absence of a reason to react otherwise.
Your cooperation is appreciated, and your comments are welcome.
Go 'Dawgs!

Prayers to Larry. Glad to hear word of him being in Stable condition.
That said, a flaming bag of monkey poop will be left on the doorstep of one Chris Gay tonight. May he stomp it out with the barest of feet.

And to piggyback on that...
… Tony Barnhart just tweeted the following:
Talked to Michael Munson, Larry’s son. Larry recovering from upper respiratory infection. He is listed as stable. Larry is 89.

Thanks, vineyarddawg.
I’m glad we’re finally getting some material from the family, from the athletic association, and from journalists who are quoting credible sources. If we got that kind of thing all the time, we wouldn’t have to deal with rapidly-spreading rumors that demonstrate once again that the internet, at its best, is a vehicle for quickly disseminating information, and, at its worst, is the world’s biggest game of “Telephone.”

Larry Munson. Get well soon. The only college or pro sport announcer, other than Mick Hubert, that I’ve ever listened to and actually cared what they said.

I liked Eli Gold well enough, and Keith Jackson. That being said, no one is better than Larry.

Yeah, Jackson was alright. Though I caught him at the end of his run (I’m 27 years old), so I can’t judge it all. But aside from Hubert and Muson, they are all idiots. TV guys or radio guys. Same goes for the talking heads in the studio shows.
Every replay/challenge they say “Indisputable evidence” – WE FREAKING KNOW ALREADY!!!!
50% of the time they say the wrong player.
50% of the time they say something that isn’t nearly true.
Verne Lunquist probably has alzheimer’s.
Brent Musburger needs to retire. There is a reason CBS canned him in the 80’s.
Kirk Herbstreit thinks of himself waaaaaaay to highly.
Gary Dainelson – see Herbstreit.
Don’t even get me started on Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Theismann, Collinsworth, or any other of the NFL guys. The MLB guys (with Peter Gammons being the worst) are just pathetic. The NBA, aside from Tommy Heinsohn, they are all horrible and couldn’t catch a Chick Hern or Johnny Most que.
The only tolorable ones are Gus Johnson and Todd Blackledge. Johnson for his calls and Blackledge because of the random, out of the way, eating tips..which are hilarious.

Well, stay tuned to Dawgsports.com, because either Mr Sanchez or myself (maybe we should pair up) are going to get our ESPN hate on.
It seems the one thing SEC fans agree on is how horrible announcers are today. It makes Mr Munson all the more special.

Will do and agree 100%.

I must add, that I’ve yet to listen to a soccer announcer (TV or radio) that I disliked. Especially Ian Darke, Derek Rae and Tommy Smythe.

I also love the way they call themselves out
When something they’ve predicted is about to happen doesn’t.
I think if some of the announcers in other sports would do the same, it might go a long way toward building up some goodwill with the audience.

Thanks, FlaGators.
Given that Larry’s most famous call came on a play that beat the Gators, that means a lot, coming from you. Much obliged.
Go 'Dawgs!
He is one of the great ones. I’ll admit that I’ve watched clips of “Run, Lindsay, Run” a few times just to hear him call it.

I remember listening to Larry on the radio
before I ever went to a game (and I went to my first game in 1978). Get well soon Larry you are and will forever be the “Voice of the Bulldogs”
My first game was
Sept 11, 1976 UGA defeated California and after that (I was 7 at the time) I was hooked on the red and black. I grew up listenting to him on the AM radio here in Dalton, and when the Dawgs were televised my Dad and I would mute the TV and listen to Larry call the game instead of the ABC crew.
I HATE ORANGE
My Dad would do the same thing.
In fact, I’m pretty sure he taped a few important games on VHS, recorded Larry’s commentary for those games on audio cassettes, and dubbed the latter onto the former.

I seriously never knew UGA football without his voice
before I was ever in the stands my dad would hand me my UGA hat with the built in radio and earphones ( I loved that hat). I remember being upset as a kid with those around me that would yell too loudly for me to hear that awesome mans voice. Larry is an intricate part for me as to what it is to grow up in Georgia. Red clay, fall leaves, the Classic City, Silver Britches, BBQ, Hairy Dawgs, Junkyard DAWGS, Herschel, My god a freshman!, you sir are an icon and a true legend!
Get well Larry Munson!

Munson
Many times over the past 25 years I have been in remote areas throughout Georgia and North Florida and the only coverage of college games I could find was the Georgia Network. I have stood by the bed of my truck alone in the woods listening to Mr. Munson’s broadcasts and during those times he was my only contact with the world. He called it like he saw it and I could never dispute a word. He is a part of my life and I wish him health and happiness.
