"If I had to grade myself on my performance, I’d give myself a C at best," the Georgia quarterback said. . . .
"If you all were able to go back and watch the film the way we watch the film and critique it the way I critique it and the way Coach Bobo critiques it, there were tons of plays last year where I left on the field," Murray said. "I could’ve thrown a completion here or there, or thrown a touchdown here or there, or checked to a play here or there that I didn’t do. There are a lot of corrections to be made."
Aaron Murray, as quoted by Seth Emerson.
If that was his C game, I'm really looking forward to his A game!

I find his lack of self-satisfaction to be encouraging

Absolutely.
Murray has every right to feel good about his performance last year; the fact that he’s focused on how he can improve is about as positive a sign as we could have at this point.

I remember my redshirt freshman year...
I didn’t actually play football (but it basically took me 2 football seasons to get through my freshman year…).
I was a playa. I was cocky. I made decent grades. I figured, “Hey…I’ve got this college thing licked!” Perhaps I even gained some accolades as well (mom said she was proud). But I got complacent. I didn’t watch film (except the ones showing at the Classic Triple, The Palace, Alps and Beechwood). I didn’t fully appreciate or embrace the playbook, which included Slaughterhouse Five, Geology 125 and Wheelock’s Latin among other items.

this book is scarier than The Exorcist
Soon enough, I cruised into my sophomore year. I figured it would all be the same – just a rehash of the previous year. I didn’t need the playbook.
Man, it was brutal. I slipped. Didn’t read coverages (or assignments). Was late to team meetings classes. Found myself near probation. I was in the midst of the dreaded sophomore slump and it was totally avoidable if I had only applied myself. My career was at the precipice. de pilo pendet
Finally, I got demoted and the old man made me pay my own way until I figured things out.
I sense none of this is going to happen to young Mr. Murray. He’s going to have a fine season playing the football, too.

I had much the same experience...
Minus the decent grades part (Note to parents: sending your kid off to college at 17 isn’t always the best idea). And LaFleur (Editor/Revisor of that terrifying tome) was my Latin professor. Only A I got that semester and the only class I legitimately worked my tail off in.

Oh, man
Latin was really what kept me from graduating. My academic adviser told me I needed 3 quarters of my foreign language (yep, the ol’ quarter system). I took Latin concurrently. Two years later, she said…“oh, I messed up…you have to go back for a 4th quarter of Latin.” I barely squeaked by…

Fun fact
GSU offers no Latin major and no Greek program of any kind. They do however offer a major in Urban Policy, although how this differs from regular Public Policy is unclear.
I know its true cause I researched it and everything.

I took the ole uga latin
For four semesters. I straddled the quarter to semester switch. I preferred quarters. But I bet learning a language in the quarter system is a living hell due to the lack of time to take it all in.
I was a serial language class dropper. I dropped French twice and German twice. I guess that’s why I have good memories of Mr. Wheelock.
