An Opposing Quarterback Has Been Arrested
Meanwhile, Georgia still hasn't had a player arrested since October 11, 2010.
The remojofication of Bulldog Nation continues apace.

Thanks for the opening:
I read today from Seth Emerson at Bulldogs Blog …..wait for it……
McGarity tried to address the football team’s arrest problem by meeting with local police chiefs last year, and one of those chiefs credits the new athletics director’s actions with helping stem the problem.
Which would be exactly what I said I would do as Czar of Discipline. Exactly. I said I would want to build relations with the ACCPD. But wait, there is more from the chiefs:
McGarity said he wanted to "basically find out what could we do as a department to assist those that have to make decisions in the law enforcement world. What could we do?" The answer, according to UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson, was to keep players’ driver’s licenses up to date, thus avoiding many of the traffic-related offenses that had occurred. "I never really felt we had a problem," Williamson said. "We all have done dumb things, including me. But it wasn’t malicious or criminal behavior. … Most every problem they had was driving-related things where they hadn’t paid a ticket or had a suspended license. It was more like little book-keeping things they needed to do. So I know they put in all these little procedures that people needed to do."
Which is exactly why I said, over and over and over, can’t we get an intern or grad student or someone just to track this down on a spreadsheet.
And the icing on the cake:
McGarity also helped create a mentoring program for the football players, led by about 30 men in Athens — from law enforcement, community leaders and businessmen.
Which I have been screaming for for years, a new comers brief.
Either I am smart (unlikely) or I am friends with the AD (untrue) or McGarity has been following me on Dawgsports.com.

I would be thrilled to learn that Greg McGarity read Dawg Sports.
Shocked, but thrilled.

Kyle, you do get it that these are the exact things I was screaming for?
What bothers me is a) how long it took and b) Damon Evans was a really bad AD as it turns out.
But it gave me shivers (and made me slightly proud) to see the AD did what any good leader would be doing.

Didn't NM!-SU!'s athletic site retweet your preview for that game?
Sure, it’s not the same as Greg McGarity, but that is still pretty shocking too.
The 984 Has Spoken!
So, now that Manic Kyle(TM) is on duty...
… are you ready to proclaim the 2011 Georgia Bulldogs the SEC Champions yet?
Whoa, hold the phone!
I have in no way suggested that this will translate onto the field of play.
I’m just commenting on the fact that, while we have been having an offseason that has been (a) almost entirely uneventful and (b) eventful only for good reasons (Ealey’s and King’s departures, increased minor injuries due to harder-hitting practices), every team that has crossed our path appears to have been hexed. Nike went entirely in the wrong direction; they should have designed a “black cat” uniform for the ’Dawgs.

Kyle, stop.
I refuse to buy into this remojofication.
- When 1 September passes without ACCPD arresting half the starters and their key backups for a midnight slumber party, I’ll buy in.
- When we don’t fumble with less than a minute, in gimme FG range, I’ll buy in.
- When Samuel gets behind the secondary and doesn’t trip over the 1 mm bump in the turf, I’ll buy in.
- When Carlton Thomas isn’t sent up the middle (following 1st-and-bomb, 2nd-and-trip, of course), I’ll buy in.
- When two-thirds of the team doesn’t get hurt in practice, prompting no-tackle-practice, I’ll buy in.
- When we don’t bite on the Statue of Liberty, I’ll buy in.
- When Lattimore doesn’t run through holes big enough to drive a truck through, I’ll buy in.

You are a wise man, Just Some Dawg.
Very wise, indeed.

I agree with this - and I am a proponent of not buying into any hype, however,
we have factually evidence that discipline has improved, and our AD is getting involved in all the right ways.
The rest, however, remains on the field, TBD.

Rec'd.
We have not lost off the field. We could very well still lose on the field, but we at least managed the jots and tittles to this point.

Well said, . . .
. . . although I must confess that, while skimming recent comments on my lunch break, I initially misread both parts of the excellent phrase “jots and tittles” as references to, respectively, the preferred pants selection of Gator Nation and breasts.

Well the good news is...
Due to oversigning, Nutt has 13 QBs on the roster.

It's all about Championships
Surely you all believe in “Great D Wins Championships” but how about “Great AD Wins Championships”? McGarity has done what any bright AD with strong public relations skills would have done. I am happy to have him at the helm.
And Mayor… Please Do Not Tempt Fate… too many players on scooters for you to play with fire like this!

My thoughts as well...
this is how these things like to work. Get you just about feeling good about things before dropping the hammer. We keep reveling in this stuff, and come October 22, we have 67% of our starters arrested for running the state’s largest meth ring.
http://sportsandgrits.blogspot.com/
Actually,
I should have said 68% (if you include both kickers and the snapper as starters).

If we lose the starting long snapper, we're in big trouble.
Just ask Munson how much a long snapper matters.
Go 'Dawgs!
Wholeheartedly disagree sir...
if any team can deal with the loss of their long snapper, it’s Georgia. That wily Richt has the depth chart fully stocked there, with both junior Ty Frix and freshman Nathan Theus around. And here I was busting on him for poor scholarship utilization. The underappreciated value of having the best backup place kicker and backup long snapper in the country folks.

From Emerson...
“It’s obvious they’ve done a good job of making sure players driver’s license are current,” Williamson said. "I know the other day a player was cited for not having his seat belt on. He was cited for that, but that was it. I know in years past that may not have been the case, he might have had something else that came up when the officer ran his record.
Cue Jeff Schultz editorial about how the UGA football team is out of control again.
It would be nice if Jeff Schultz did a bit on how the ACCPD is out of control. They make it sound like "Cops" should be filmed in Athens.

Not sure this was posted anywhere else:
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Police are investigating allegations that LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson and unidentified teammates were involved in a fight outside a Baton Rouge bar early Friday morning.
One of the allegations is JJ kicked a marine in the head.
