Confirmed: Brandon Burrows Will Miss the 2011 Season
All that worrying you were doing about the offensive line, the running backs, and the secondary? Yeah, start worrying about the linebackers, too.
There are so many areas of this team where the margin for error is nonexistent that the 2011 'Dawgs are starting to remind me of Tom Wolfe's recurring line from The Right Stuff: it could blow at any seal!
We now have to hope against hope that absolutely no one gets injured . . . and that the strength and conditioning program is all that and a bag of lean protein and complex carbohydrates. We're going to need some guys to play a bunch of minutes in a bunch of games, because there's just no one behind them.
On the plus side, I like our chances to dominate the selections for the All-SEC freshman team!
Go 'Dawgs!

to quote the movie version
Yeager: Hey Ridley, you got any (healthy players)?
Ridley: I might have me a (freshman).
Yeager: Well loan me some would ya, I’ll pay you back later.
Ridley: Fair enough.
Yeager: I think I see a (Jacksonville victory) with my name on it.
Ridley: Now you talkin!
(crash and burn)
Elvis is dead, and I don't feel so good myself.
I think I’m downgrading my 8-4 prediction to a 7-5. With this little depth, someone’s either: a) going to get hurt in a key position, or b) going to get so fatigued from being on the field so much that they blow a key play to lose a game we shouldn’t otherwise have lost.
Of course, with the Fudge/Hamilton defensive backfield, no one probably even needs to get hurt for us to blow a game late on defense… but still.

If you're a taxi driver, yes
otherwise, probably not. Not wise, but not illegal.
And where is that goat? Why are we taking so long to sacrifice the sucker? I hope no one is going Auburn/Clemson on us and falling in love with the thing, cause it’s gotta die and soon.

Depth
It is really hard to say how the ineitable injuries will impact our team and others in the league. Our Dawgs may seem snake bitten to our fans, but other teams will deal with the same challenges. We just have to hope that unproven youngsters can step into key roles. Now that was positive! Now I will skulk off to contemplate excellent mediocrity once again.

I'll be honest, I didn't know jack about Mr. Burrows

This is in part why I didnt like moving Samuel. Robbing Peter to pay Paul seldom works out in the end.
This is also part of the oversigning argument.
This kid will be at UGA forever if he misses this season, doesn’t he still get 4 years of eligibility?

depends
you get 5 to play 4 unless there’s extenuating circumstances. Considering he redshirted last year (in part to an ACL if I’m not mistaken) and this year it’s the shoulder, that isn’t exactly a slam dunk for the NCAA to grant a 6th year, like say it would be for Sturdivant if he wanted to seek such a 6th season to play 4.

Color me unconcerned
Not about Burrows mind you (to whom I wish a speedy recovery)… but about depth. Is the 3rd string guy really that much better than the 4th string guy or a highly touted freshman? Or one the 3rd string guy at another LB spot that could be rotated if necessary?
There are numerous areas of concern for me, but this isn’t one of them.

I am sure over at BSU they will count this as another player "leaving in droves".

I think 3rd string was in part because of health and age
if healthy and practicing, he’d probably be a lot higher on the depth chart than that.

Probably...
But nonetheless, my thought is is this really worth the doom and gloom.

I've got the perfect solution to this issue
All we need to do is take a cue from NCAA ‘06 and the implement the 7" inch micro linebacker. In other words, move Carlton Thomas over to defense and we’ve basically just swapped position players. Coach Grantham can thank me later…

cue it up to about :53 seconds for maximum effect/hilarity.

Sorry to see another Dawg go down.
I felt the same frustration last year with my Red Raiders, we seemed to be “snakebite” throughout the season. Not to mention the loss of Leach to the psyche of the fanbase, the addition of Tubberville and his lack of game management to the mix, a first time DC with the wrong scheme for the personnel; it seemed we had Freshman starting everywhere with Freshman backing them up.
I realize Burrows was not in the 2 deep, but still hate to see a team lose members before the season starts.
Sorry...
But these doesn’t concern me at all, for I didn’t see him contributing much anyway.

I think this is just the time of year
when you are going to lose people. It’s the natural course of events. It’s why some coaches like to oversign. Across the football community people are very sensitive to everything that happens in July and August. I think if we had blogs and instant media we would find this trend of “OMG WE LOST SOMEBODY” had been going on for 50 years.

Silver lining
If Neil C. was still coaching at UGA he would have snapped Burrows’ “chronic shoulder instability” right up and had him on the OL where we are really thin also.
Please understand...
Its a lack of panic about this situation, not a lack of panic overall.

Thank you, RedCrake.
You have no idea how reassured I am by the knowledge that you and I agree on the appropriate level of panic, and disagree only as to the order of priority of things about which we should be panicking.
Wait . . . you reassured me! I feel better about the season than I did a moment ago! Dang it! That means we’re doomed, doomed, I tell you!
Whew. Now that I feel a lot worse, I feel a lot better. Wait a minute . . . aw, shoot!
Go 'Dawgs!

Your really need to take that daily countdown off and put up "its a new day, whom will we lose today?"
