Georgia Bulldogs Men's Golf Team to Face Augusta State for National Championship
We know the NCAA men’s golf title will be coming to the Peach State, but we don’t yet know whether the national championship trophy is bound for Athens or Augusta.
After fifth-seeded Georgia upset fourth-seeded Illinois in the first round of match play, the Bulldogs outlasted eighth-seeded Duke, 3-2, in the semifinals in Stillwater. Wins by Harris English, Russell Henley, and Bryden Macpherson set up an all-Georgian national final against defending NCAA champion Augusta State. Seventh-seeded ASU also claimed a 3-2 semifinal victory, defeating third-seeded host squad Oklahoma State for the right to defend the Jaguars’ 2010 title.
Red and Black seniors English, Henley, and Hudson Swafford will lead the Bulldogs onto the links beginning at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, when the SEC’s second-best overall athletics program will attempt to cap off the 2010-’11 academic term with an NCAA championship.

OMG - I so can't wait to go to Walmart to see the NC Trophy! Go Dawgs!

Harumph!
How ’bout a little credit for my alma mater? Div 2 school going for consecutive Div 1 championships. Giant killers!
Sorry, man; . . .
. . . I’ll congratulate the Jags if they win, but Georgia needs a title in something a lot worse than Augusta State does!
Go 'Dawgs!
Not sure how you figure that. Can ASU fans not have the same passion/pride as Dawgs?
Our guy Patrick Reed did play his freshman year in Athens, fwiw.
Today he demolished the current U.S. Am Open champ. Match over after 12 holes.
I’m an unabashed Dawg fan just about every day of my life. Not tomorrow.
ASU fans absolutely can have the same passion and pride.
But come on, man, they got a national championship as recently as last year!
Precisely.
Don’t take it personally, NRBQ; I was in no way demeaning the ability of ASU fans to be as passionate and proud in their support of the Jags as Georgia fans are in their support of the ‘Dawgs, but Augusta State won it all last year, and they pulled off a couple of upsets to get back to the finals this year. Win or lose, they’ve had a great year.
In addition to our recent disappointments on the gridiron, we’ve seen our top-flight gymnastics program collapse, we’ve seen our baseball program struggle to make it back to the NCAA field of 64, we’ve seen our top-flight softball program’s senior-laden squad get upset in the super regional, and we’ve seen our men’s and women’s tennis teams come up agonizingly short. Other than our men’s and women’s basketball teams, we’ve been coming up short all over the place. Georgia needs this win . . . badly.
Go 'Dawgs!
