Dawg Sports Q&A with Red Cup Rebellion
Seriously, we've got to get Spencer Hall to stop misquoting our kickoff chant as "arp, arp, arp," because folks are starting to think that's what we're saying, when, in fact, we're clearly saying "woof, woof, woof."
That aside, my interview with Red Cup Rebellion is up at the Ole Miss Rebels' SB Nation site. Sorry for not catching that earlier. As noted, I've had a busy day.

By the way, . . .
. . . I just re-read my answers, and it appears that, in my haste over a busy Father’s Day weekend, I was guilty of a subject-verb agreement error in that interview. Mea culpa.

I honestly never thought Orson was quoting our kickoff bark.
I thought he was attributing a trained-seal-like bark to us in mockery of a perceived thoughtless repeat of things like “Gators wear jeans shorts”. (They do.)
I believe you're right, but, due to Orson's considerable influence in the blogosphere, . . .
. . . I believe folks take his knee-jerk mindless mockery of our supposed knee-jerk mindlessness (I trust Spencer enough to believe the irony of this does not escape him) literally, and mistakenly believe we are arping rather than barking. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

"I believe folks take his knee-jerk mindless mockery of our supposed knee-jerk mindlessness"
sounds a little like the cult of Jon Stewart.
But honestly if someone was mocking our kickoff chant, I’ve always thought it sounded a lot like “roo roo roo”

Anyone know its history?
I have the vague feeling that the kickoff thing started in my lifetime, but in the absence of specific recollection and/or compelling evidence, I tend to shy away from “started in my lifetime” due to the bias inherent in such a conclusion. Hmm. Perhaps I know someone or someones who could contribute relevant information.
Well, aside from the fact that Gators wear jean shorts and eat boogers (both of which are true)...
Even a queen-to-be of Zamunda knows the sound that a big dog makes.
