Wednesday Morning Dawg Bites
As a great American once observed, life moves pretty fast, and, if you don’t slow down every so often, you could miss it. Consider this your opportunity to slow down briefly on a Wednesday morning, in order to take in the following data that you otherwise might have overlooked:
- This has been quite a week for individual Bulldogs. We all know about Hines Ward’s successes on the dance floor, but Cassidy McComb was honored as the Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year, Teresa Edwards was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, Marta Silva Zamora rose to No. 1 in the Golfweek performance rankings, Javier Garrapiz was named SEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and Bridget Lyons was chosen as one of the SEC Community Service Leaders of the Year.
- I’m not trying to rile anyone up over the perennial college football playoff debate, but I think it bears noting that no one ever had to write about recalibrating what the BCS National Championship Game means.
- As NCT noted already, G-Day will feature fan favorites David Greene, D.J. Shockley, and Eric Zeier showing off their quarterback skills in Sanford Stadium (again) to raise money for the Johnathan Taylor Fund. It’s all part of a full yet inexpensive weekend in the Classic City that includes a Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall open house. Be sure to join us there!
I don’t know about you, but I feel smarter just for knowing all that. Consider yourself fully briefed and prepared to meet your day!
Go ‘Dawgs!

Also, last night, Texas A&M won their first women's basketball national championship.
This makes our elimination at the hands of the Lady Aggies slightly less humiliating*.
* – But not by much. When you lose by 41 points in a game in which you only scored 38 points, the level of your humiliation is almost unassailable. At least we can now say, however, that we ran into a steamroller that ended up winning the national championship.

In case you missed it,
the first official baseball RPI rankings are out. UGA comes in at #16.

woot.
And one-third of the teams ranked ahead of us are on our upcoming schedule. Adding the games already played accounts for more than half of 1-15. Strength of schedule ftw.
I thought UGA was better than their record suggests.
I just didn’t think a .500 would come in at #16. Anyhoo, I would expect UGA to rise in the other rankings in the coming weeks as well.

Greene, Shockley, and Zeier on the same field?
Undoubtedly there’s an NCAA violation somewhere in there – a potential Bulldog may be watching the event! Surely the NCAA has already dispatched some of the investigators they unquestionably have working around the clock in Auburn (snicker) to Athens to put a stop to this.
