Despite having thus far faced a schedule featuring six currently ranked teams, the Diamond Dogs have come together as a club, and the Athenians now find themselves in the thick of the conference race in a division that features three of the top four teams in the country. As of this morning, these are the SEC standings:
Position | East Team | SEC | All | West Team | SEC | All |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | South Carolina Gamecocks | 10-2 | 26-5 | Alabama Crimson Tide | 7-4 | 21-12 |
2 | Vanderbilt Commodores | 9-2 | 29-3 | Arkansas Razorbacks | 5-6 | 22-8 |
3 | Florida Gators | 8-3 | 25-7 | Mississippi St. Bulldogs | 5-6 | 21-10 |
4 | Georgia Bulldogs | 8-3 | 18-14 | Auburn Tigers | 4-7 | 17-14 |
5 | Kentucky Wildcats | 2-9 | 16-16 | Mississippi Rebels | 4-7 | 19-13 |
6 | Tennessee Volunteers | 2-10 | 19-13 | LSU Tigers | 3-8 | 21-10 |
The Red and Black are a game and a half out of first place in the East, are a game behind second-place Vanderbilt, are tied with the Florida team that will visit Athens next weekend, and are no worse than fourth overall in the league.
The division-leading Palmetto State Poultry already are finished for the weekend, but the Classic City Canines wrap up their series with Ole Miss starting at 2:30, while the first pitch of the Music City Mariners’ concluding contest with Alabama is set for 2:00 and the Sunshine State Saurians’ final outing at Mississippi State gets underway at 1:00.
