I Think We Have Found Our Uga IX
Do you remember the bulldog puppy Isaiah Crowell held up on national signing day? Of course you do.
The puppy is owned by Mike Woods, whose bald dome (emblazoned with the Uga head logo) is visible during commercial bumps at Georgia sporting events. Woods was asked to allow the puppy to be used during Crowell's announcement ceremony.
The puppy is named Magical Munson Woods. He comes from the Uga line; Uga VI was his great-uncle, and Woods says he's "got the papers to prove it."
Woods intends to offer Magical Munson Woods to the Seilers and the school so he can serve as Uga IX.
To recap: Magical Munson Woods is part of the Uga line, but he comes from an offshoot of that line, which may help from a breeding standpoint; he is named for Larry Munson; he is owned by one of the school's most well-known and visible fans; he was held up by Isaiah Crowell on national signing day.
The search is over, folks. We have ourselves a winner. As soon as the Seilers say Magical Munson Woods is old enough to serve, he should ascend to the throne as Uga IX. Give that dog a bone.

Is the dog...
…truly being considered or is this just conjecture?
It sounds like a great idea to me, but the decision makers may disagree.
I am a fan of the Dawgs, Falcons, and Braves...oh...and tacos, but I like the other three more.
I'd say just conjecture...
while it makes tons of since to many, I’ll assume the people who make this decision will go for a much more direct descendant of UGA VII or VI depending on how the lineage has gone.

After all the posts about how cute the puppy is and how much he should be the new Uga
It’s quite fitting he’s of the Uga lineage. And connected to Mike Woods at that.
I would be SHOCKED if this actually happened.
Uninteresting side story: I was a marketing intern for CBS Sports during my junior year and I had to promote their Fantasy Football program by giving away nerf footballs that had the logo on it. I also had to document my work by taking pictures. I brought all my footballs to a game one time to get some good pictures and I gave a couple away to Mike Woods and his friend that also had a painted head. I started telling him about fantasy football and he said under his breath, “I’ve got a couple of fantasies for ya.”
Creepy.
That line didn't work, huh?

I agree with Senator Heflin.
Yeah, that’s right! The women like something with more stories and costumes, that’ll transport ‘em to another place and time. That’s right! Women don’t like close-ups of oversized genitalia! That’s just never gonna turn ’em on!

Won't happen
He’s far far far too young to serve at this time. He needs at least a year, probably closer to 2 before they would let him serve. There’s a “training period” to get the dog ready to serve – gets the dog socialized & prepared to handle crowds, lots of children etc etc etc. Being UGA with the duties & responsibilities that come with it is not quite the same as being a household pet, or even a show dog.
I can bake like a demon.
You know, in WWII, lots of kids lied about their age so they could volunteer for service.
Can’t we get Uga Magical Munson Woods to fudge just a little on his application?

Unfortunately...
Puppies do fudge on applications…and on carpets, hardwood floors, rugs etc.

Was this most recent Uga any older?
I don’t recall Big Bad Bruce being much older, if at all, last February.
As for how they get the dog ready to handle “the duties & responsibilities” is something I’ve heard bad rumors on, so I hope that practice is either not true or no longer used. But it’s February, and he would have 6+ months to get that training in. Not sure how long it takes, but 6+ months is plenty of time imo.

Just checked, ...
in the original articles announcing his arrival, Big Bad Bruce was mentioned as being born in Sep 09, and barely 13 months when he was on the sidelines for his first game.

agreed
that’s why I said that pup needs at least a year – that puppy is only about 8 weeks old or so.
I did a little research myself. Big Dawg Woods breeds pups somewhat regularly. He linked to an ebay post about UGA line pups ready for Christmas back in the fall – he may have another older pup that would be ready for football season.
I’ll defer to Tank since he owns an absolutely awesome Bulldog himself, and my knowledge comes more from Newfoundlands – but, my estimation is they need an older dog if only slightly older.

In dog years...that's like...what?
3.5 years?

I know you're joking (I think),
but it would actually depend on how old the dog is currently. All dogs age at different speeds, but the general consensus is that dogs age fourteen years in their first year and seven years each subsequent year. So…for Magic, it would be seven years, not three and a half, since he’s less than one year old.

Totaly unrelated
According to Emerson, Ealey is suspended from all team activities for missing a punishment run.

Whichever dog gets picked
please let it be one that can actually walk around for a while and look less like a dog with sleeping sickness. The last two dogs were like the team not very alert. The old dawgs were active, heck they even ran on the field with the team until they got too old. These latest can’t hardly walk onto the field to sleep. Some of the fans were accusing Sonny of doping them. I just couldn’t imagine either of the last two or Russ attacking an Aubie like his ancestor they couldn’t jump that high.
Maybe...
UGA VII’s heart condition and UGA VIII’s lymphoma had something to do with the respective dog’s demeanor. Given the facts we know about each dog’s untimely death, taking shots at the deceased pups accomplishes absolutely nothing.

I've been sitting here thinking the same damn thing, holding my tongue.
There’s no proof, scientific/medical, I’ve seen to prove a cause-and-effect. Sometimes bad stuff happens to good Dawgs.
I, for one, am for letting Russ keep the mantle. He’s been a warrior and the face of UGA for 3(?) years now. He may not fit the “image” but he’s been our heart!
If you're itching to change something, change your attitude.
I agree - how many times are we going to call on Russ in a time of need only to have him step back down!
It will be ok to have Uga VIII, Russ, Uga IX. In fact, we will look back on it one day as a story to tell our grandchildren.

Perhaps we could even start a new dynastic tradition.
Maybe we should take a cue from the actual human royalty around the world and allow for multiple regnal names to be used.
Russ could continue serving, followed by, perhaps, Otto II. Or Russ II.
I would draw the line, however, if someone wanted to call the mascot Bugga Lou II.
Dang, I even missed it in preview.
I meant “Mike II,” not “Russ II” above. Of course, Russ II would work, as well. That’s just not what I meant to type.
There is already a statue of Mike on campus, after all… he would not exactly be the Oliver Cromwell of the Georgia mascot line.
